Welcome. I'm also a new owner in Ottawa, but I've got a first gen. Just like your wife, I never liked the odd design of the first generation Ridgeline and was set on the new one. I was on the Honda mailing list, had a call to test drive a BE at Kanata Honda when they first arrived this summer etc. However, somewhere along the way the first gen really grew on me and much to my surprise I ended up with a mint 2014 Sport. 
I still like the new ones and will likely pick up a used one when I'm finished with my Sport but I really appreciate the quirky, non-cookie cutter look of the original.
