Has anyone pulled off the rear roof trim where the 3rd brake light lives ? i wonder if the instructions for a cap would have the correct way to remove the trim piece ?

Take a look at it on Bernardiparts.com. BODY / AIR CONDITIONING : OUTER PANEL - ROOF PANEL
Pry the three caps up top...there are screws underneath then you have to tug on that top piece a bit to pull it away from the roof.
I removed the caps and three bolts, then tried to pull it off without luck. Didn't pull too hard for fear of breaking something. Are there any other screws or bolts to remove?

I think it was sort of clipped in there and had to use a plastic pry tool to start to wiggle it out...it didn't just easily slide out.
no more bolts after the three. you need a plastic trim tool along the top edge where the panel clips in. at each end there are very secure clips but again just use a trim tool to lever the panel off. the bottom edge just has straight pins that once the top is rotated down pull out easily

So why did you need to remove the trim anyways? 1. I'm curious 2. The Leer and ARE caps keep the trim piece from pictures i've seen.

Islick, I have removed mine several times for various reasons. DEFINITELY get the trim clips from your dealer first, they are one time use and should be replaced each time you remove the rear roof trim panel. I think there are seven of them, seem to recall six are identical and one is different. Horror stories of the rear roof panel flying off at highway speeds after being removed by body shops etc. All the other advice following your post is correct, just pry with a trim tool. dk
did not know about the one time use of the clips. do you have a part numbers ? not sure how the part could come off with the three bolts holding it on.
Jumper, here is the thread link for "ALWAYS replace rear roof trim clips/grommets". It has the part number for the 7 grommets and clips which are sold separately, each clip should get a new grommet. See page 2, post mentions rear roof trim flying off, another mentions car wash tearing it off, there are more similar stories on the forum.

Someone said they come off hard, I do not agree. Just use a good trim tool like the one in this photo. I agree the nuts should be enough to hold but apparently are not, they are just small M5 studs and lightweight nuts. Wind can be a very powerful force over a large flat sail area. I know, I am in the Flagpole business. No need for the liquid nails or even sealant mentioned, just play it safe and replace all 7 grommets and all 7 clips.

Hope this helps. Danny K.

i am grateful for your info. slight change for the 2017 ridgeline in that all seven pins are the same. it is part number 9152-stk-a01 clip garnish. i know for sure some clips in the honda 2017 ridgeline are one time use. just not sure about this clip. very impressed with the engineering in how the trim panel is held on. the three bolts just keep the panel down. the whole leading edge locks into the roof to keep the panel secure. i tried to lift the panel off from the bottom and it is solid as a rock. another reason i popped the panel off was that there was what i thought was bug or some piece of rubber hanging down from the rubber weatherstripping. it was the wiring harness wrapped with electrical tape...

Would you be able to fish a satellite radio antenne wire (2mm thick) from the roof down into the rear part of the ceiling? Just assuming the wiring for the 3rd breaklight might go that route.

Is all of your rear roof trim panels straight across, or do they appear to be wavy? Odd question, I know.

I took it apart and it doesn't appear anything is causing the trim to rise up, so I added some washers under the trim where the bolts go to raise it up a bit. It looks a little better, but just thought it was odd that it wasn't straight. I am hoping its not melting :(
Just did this today and I found the same - the snaps do require some force, but the trim piece came out just fine and I was able to access the brake light.

I have recently noticed the same thing. There's just one section on my 2017 BE that is raised up, but upon closer inspection, there's a gap now in what appears to be some kind of seal, because it is not otherwise noticeable in the gap between the unaffected trim and roof:

Any ideas if this would cause some kind of water intrusion issue?
