yeah i was told the same thing, or maybe it was i told them and they agreed it was ok...

i said i'm going to drive this around the block once a week to keep things lubricated, and keep the flat spots from forming.

the letter from honda says something about they will have the vehicle towed in, and my dealer mentioned something similar, but having been a flatbed tow truck driver, and see what other (very few i'm sure) tow truck drivers have done to cars and their general attitude to someone else's property, the only one i want towing my car is me...

You'll have to go over the noted mileage to drive it to the repair station when the parts come in, unless you have it flatbedded.
They drove it to my house, noted the mileage, and said they will have someone meet me at my house to drive it back when the parts come in. She specifically told me "it cant move". But I run it once a week, and drive it forward and backward a few feet to get a new sitting position on the tires. I think I do need to get a battery maintainer of sorts. Noticed the battery getting weaker, its been 3 weeks.

could be worse... at least we were offered alternate transportation...

how would we all feel if we bought say a 60,000 mercedes that's now affected by the airbag recall, and got nothing! mb is not offering anything to help the customers....

I knew of the obvious consequeses. I don't plan on driving it. I'm not a fan shrapnel killing or blinding me. Having metal sticking out of my my eye socket, that was enough for me let alone becoming the "sticky mess" in the front seat. Whew... That's a good one no doubt. Adding texture to the mental image!

Them not being able to be sued, signing an acknowledgment of knowing of the issue, and them providing an alternative, sounds probable it may protect them in court. I guess that was my more specific question. Legalities etc... Didn't know if they would also try to make you pay for the rental car. Just playing devils advocate. I'm sure others have also thought, "what happens if I go over the noted mileage".

I don't worry about it. I drive it a few miles a week to keep everything circulating. But I don't use it for any transportation needs. Just drive it enough to thoroughly warm it up and circulate the fluids and rotate the bearings, etc. I keep the battery on a maintainer.

I would say, that unless it's in the agreement to not drive your RL once parked. I'd drive it occasionally just for maintenance reasons, if it's just a few miles. As long as the airbags don't deploy I don't see how they would have an issue with it, especially when a vehicle that sits for an extended period of time could cause damage due to lack of use and Honda's backlog of getting vehicles repaired.

Well, called the dealer today to ask if I could drive it just once a week around the block basically....so it didn't waste away. And secondly if I wasn't allowed to drive it period, if they would pay for any damages from sitting. Rep told me to call Honda, Honda then told me to call the dealer and talk to the service manager. So I did that. Service manager had to call Honda and return my call. I again was told no, it can't be driven. No Honda will not take care of any damages from sitting, i.e. Flat spots on tires, or anything else. I then asked if there was any sort of eta on the recall. I was told that the RLs would be done by now but they had fitment issues with the replacement, so they have to redo the design. No eta... Geez.... He did say I could return the rental and drive the ridge. Still don't understand the logic there. Whatever...

I hadn't heard anything about the new parts not fitting. I can't say I've been watching these threads very well, though.

I'm happy with my dealer's handling of this situation. I have a vehicle to drive that's comparable in function to my Ridgeline, and it isn't costing me anything to have/use it. It isn't going to hurt the Ridgeline to age in my garage as much as it would for it to age outside at work. Heck, even Mom's old Durant that sat in the garage, waiting to be spruced up, for decades didn't have permanently flat-spotted tires in under almost a decade. I truly do see angling for extra payments or 'liability' as whining over imaginary harms, especially given how much Honda is willing to do for its owners/customers on this. Perhaps there are some who are not being treated as well by their dealers. What I know is that I've been happy with mine since I bought the pickup. Sales, parts, and service experiences have all been great!

Arrowhead Honda in Peoria, AZ, if anyone cares.

As of yesterday, my service manager says no news on the airbag repair. I'm 3 months and nearly 8000 miles into my Accord loaner.

Heh! Good question, but nope. As good as the Accord is, I simply don't like how it drives with the CVT. Can't see buying one.

OTOH, I've been shopping a new Acura RDX for a relative. There is virtually no difference in a 2016 and a 2017 except price negotiations. Well, a couple of colors have been renamed and the AcuraLink is extended to 4 years instead of 3. But there is no Carplay or Android Auto, go figure.

However, the 8 speed auto with paddle shifters could be fun! Adaptive cruise control, lane watch (was interesting to feel it self-driving), and some other goodies means I'd have to go to school on it to learn how to use it!

But seriously, in this day and age... no Apple Carplay nor Android Auto in an Acura but you can get it in a Honda?

Replaced the loaner Chevy Equinox today for a Nissan Sentra. Had I been 20 minutes earlier the rep said I could have had a Jeep Grand Cherokee with 277miles on the clock. If I call after the weekend they can get me back in a truck or SUV. Lots of renters picking up kids from college this week. I may stay in the Sentra for the 30 days for the:- City: 27 - 30 MPG · Highway: 36 - 40 MPG.

So far I have put 2280 miles on a Chrysler 200, 2350 miles on a Silverado, 3098 on the Equinox. 7728 total.

Again Enterprise has been good to work with. However I do detail my loaners before I return them, and I think that helps with the chances of a vehicle swap, as my return is available to rent immediately.

I drive my RL once a week. About 4 miles on a divided 4 lane bypass that I can get up to 55mph for a couple of minutes.

I'm intrigued by the differences in perception and preference between a conventional automatic and a CVT. The complete lack of complaints about the first CVT I've ever owned in my CR-V has left me very pleased so far. It seems to do exactly what I would do if I were a transmission.

I believe the RDX has 6 speeds instead of 8. I considered an RDX before buying my CR-V, but couldn't bring myself to pay $10K more for such a similar vehicle that's only 1.5 seconds faster from 0 to 60.

I'm surprised to see a carry-over 2017 RDX since it shares bones with the CR-V, which is at the end of its current generation. If anything, I would expect to see the new platform in an Acura first which may confirm the other school of thought that believes a new CR-V won't appear until 2017 as a 2018 model at which time the RDX should be all-new as well. Given the CR-V's history of a 5 year run between generations and spy photos and media events all but confirming a turbocharged engine, I'll still be surprised if we don't see an all-new 2017 CR-V this year on the new Civic platform with all its [troubled] electronics - including CarPlay.

Yep, the RDX has a 6 speed tranny.

I guess it's simply different strokes for different folks. The CVT is not bad. I simply don't care for the way it drives. And from a performance perspective, I think the auto would out perform it. I'm sure a manual will outperform it. The TFL guys take a couple of identical cars... one with a manual tranny and one with a CVT and pit them against each other at the drag strip. The CVT never had a chance. There's a YouTube video on it somewhere.

I'll have to look that up. Generally speaking, all other things being equal, the opposite is generally true - the CVT will be the fastest and most efficient. Primarily because it can keep the engine at its peak power level (as opposed to it varying by hundreds or thousands of RPMs above and below peak efficiency) and because there is no momentary power loss between shifts like there is with conventional automatics and manuals.

The 2015 CR-V gained almost a full second from 0-60 MPH over the 2014 by switching from a 5AT to a CVT. To be fair, the engine also gained a bit of torque courtesy of direct injection though HP remained the same.

I would say the CVT in the 2016 Accord I am in the best I have ever driven...but I am getting very tired of it. I hate how it feels. I would much prefer a 6 spd or manual. Problem with Honda though is then you are stuck with VCM if you do the 6cyl.

BTW the other day I was sitting at a light and decided to put the thing in Sport mode with the Eco button off and put my foot to the floor till it didn't feel safe anymore (I mean till I hit the speed limit of course). Accord did not like it that much, and it smelt like burnt oil or rubber or something afterward. Guessing the CVT was not up for it. It never redlined or anything, but just "rubber banded" if you will in the 3-5k rpms trying to find the power I was asking for.
