Cringe everytime a G1 pass by, fugly...fugly...fugly overwhelms the senses.
G2 looks is perfect for a practical truck. Does the job without need to compensate for truck driver insecurities.
Every time I look at the Taco parked across the street mind is inundated with thoughts of looks like a box, drives like a box, great for the 5% that does extreme rock climbing; someone is over compensating.

The looks have definitely grown on me. I especially love the front 3/4 view and I think the side and rear/side profiles of my BE look fantastic. My girlfriend and I were at the Mazda dealership to get a CX9 for her last week, and a lot of the employees complimented the classy looks of the truck.

Will be interesting when they come out with a maybe new RL if the soft touch vs a more truck look holds. The new RL G2 has only been out a couple years why do so many think it will follow a Pilot and already change. I waited over 10 years for a change on the G1.

The G1 didn't change because the auto market froze up when the recession hit in 2008, before the G1 would be due for a refresh. This was prolonged and exacerbated by the continuing recession (slow auto sales) and the Japan earthquake/tsunami.

Now the SUV/truck market is hot. Honda would be foolish not to capitalize on it with competitively fresh Pilot and Ridgeline models. The big question, foe the G3, will be whether Ridgeline gets its own sheetmetal, or continue to share with the Pilot. I don't mind same fenders and hood if it will keep costs down, but you would think they could give the front grill/lights/fascia a little more character or identity for the Ridgeline.

Just don't make it look like an angry transformer like all of the other trucks. As bad as the Ridgeline looks, the angry transformer look turned me off from other trucks even more.

The G1 is seriously ugly. The G2 is wimpy looking. When a G2 is coming at me I never know if it's a CRV, Pilot or RL. Or a lifted Prius.

Either way, I own a G1 and love it and i'll be in the market for a G2 soon enough and i'm sure i'll love that too.

Function over form.

This is true, but it's also true of the Nissan Frontier, Xterra and older Pathfinder. This happens with shared platforms. You can even do this with the Tacoma and 4Runner, or the Ford equivalents.

Overall, I'm happy with the minimalist design. It tells you what it is: a smooth riding vehicle with cargo carrying-capacity. If you want a more trucky look, well, there are lift kits available. You'll sacrifice in the ride and noise department, but it'll look more truckish.

I wanted comfort, I wanted reliability, I wanted good resale, I wanted a smaller pickup. I wanted a Ridgeline. I don't need a vehicle to secure or enhance my masculinity... I'm over that crap.
I want a vehicle that appeals to my sense of aesthetic. This "compensation" argument has truth to it but it is WAY overplayed. Yes we should all drive a vehicle that functionally meets our needs but why not get just a bit of a thrill from how it looks as well?

GenII is ugly but it has character and just a bit of balls. GenII's inside and out is Pilot . . .Committee designed to appeal to the current SUV market; largely urban and female. Good call for the Pilot. Misses the mark for a truck.

The G2 is just like the G1. Some people absolutely hate it and others love it. I just find it ironic that some say one is ugly while people say the same about the generation they like lol.
