RTL - Cancelling Auto Door Lock

9385 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  phineas
My RTL automatically locks the doors when I leave after opening and closing one of the rear doors. Annoying when I come back and want to get back into the truck without my key fob, particularly getting something from the rear seat area where you have to open the front door and hit the master lock to unlock the rear doors (after fetching the key fob).

I cannot figure out how to cancel this auto lock behavior. This is the small non-touchscreen audio system, so no setting available to change. I already disabled the autolock function (does not automatically lock the doors above 15 mph). But that still does not disable the auto locking doors when the vehicle is left alone. I have scoured the large owner manual and cannot find any other setting to disable this autolock behavior.

Any ideas? Can the service department disable this? Thanks for the help.

No ideas? Can't be done?

Hello,

Perhaps what you are looking for can be found in between pages 114 - 116 of the owner's manual?

Already looked there. That is the autolock that engages when you place the truck in drive. I used the code to disable it. But this does not affect the autolock when the truck is sitting still and I close the rear doors and walk away. Nothing after page 303 either that can be customized for the non-touchscreen trucks. At least in the manual.
I think what you are looking for starts on page 303 "Customized Features"... the info regarding the "walk away auto lock" is on pg 312.
*this is in the PDF manual for Canada.

edit: I just noticed you don't have a touch screen... try going to the dealer they may be able to access it thru the OBD port?

Thanks, hosel. I'll do that this week. Have to stop to arrange for a new windshield. One rock ding decided to turn into a full blown foot long crack near the passenger side edge. Ugh.

If you don't mind also asking about turning off the beep when locking/unlocking...I don't know if there is a button combination you could use to do so, but I do see it's also a touch screen thing you can do with the RTL-Ts and up.

Just closing the loop on this. Went to the dealer and after testing and calling Honda Tech, they confirmed there is no way to reprogram the automatic walk-away door lock in the RTL. Also, cannot delete the beeps when locking and unlocking the doors.

Guess I'll have to trade the RTL in for an RTL-E...

Might want to connect with EighteenMPG. He had the opposite problem in an RTL. Here's a thread from August that's probably worth your time unless you've seen it already:

Might worth a try...it's like rooting my phones..>:)

YMMV !

How to Program the Honda Auto Lock/Unlock Feature
Not sure, but I think this might refer to the kind of automatic locking and unlocking that happens while you're in the car, putting it in park or drive etc.
