RTL-E is the Ridgeline from Acura I always wished for.

Having just bought a 2016 Accord Touring, I am really liking the 'Accord-ish' interior on the RTL-E. I always wished there was an Acura version of the Ridgeline with top-of-the line technology, comfort, features and Super Handling All Wheel Drive. The RTL-E delivers all of that and a heated steering wheel to boot (yes, I am actually looking forward to toasty, warm hands in the winter).

Of course, I'll have to pay off the Accord first, so I'm hoping there will be a refresh of the 2nd Gen Ridgeline and the few things I don't love on the 2nd Gen. will be addressed by the time I'm ready to buy one.

#1 Front end styling looks to be styled by a committee, some lights are square, some are round, some are split by the grill 'wing'. Yuck.

#2 Honda brags about the flat floor in the back seat and then covers up the flat floor with the great storage 'pan' in the front with a console. Unless they stashed the subwoofer in there, it looks like wasted space under the new shifter and cup holders to me. Maybe there will be a ginormous 'Not an Ashtray' there on future models :).

#3 It would be really nice if Honda could squeeze a just a few more MPG out of the Ridgeline, maybe an 8, 9, or 10-speed transmission would be available in a few years to boost highway mileage.

#4 Locking tailgate.

Well, that's my wishlist. Fingers crossed....

i've wondered that since i saw the new rl.... why not use the mdx driveline and front structure with the rear of the rl? i swear the better half's 06 mdx is faster than my 07 rl.... 'course her engine runs on premium... and the car too

Yet another vote for a locking tailgate. With all the Gen2 market research that Honda referenced at the Press Event, how did they miss the obvious buyer interest in this feature? Did they just run out of budget to add it? If they make it a dealer option for the 2017 RL and add it to the mid-trim and higher RLs for MY 2018, it would surely be a win-win for everyone.
Is there an aftermarket solution for the non-locking tailgate? That's just absurd!
Unless Honda rolls out an accessory tailgate lock pronto, the aftermarket will likely offer something. Integrating it with the door locks, though, would be the preferred approach. That's why an OEM version makes the most sense to me.
Acura pickup?

Funny, I saw a Lincoln Mark LT truck last night...

That always bugged me about my G1 and they did the same dumb thing in the G2. The rear floor is NOT flat. Is has that stupid tray and ridge that actually gets in the way. Large items teeter and rock on the stupid ridge. Maybe that is why is is called a "Ridgeline".

Not a big quibble and I will probably still get one but someone was not paying attention to customers.
Joe just told us that the Gen II has an entirely different tail gate lock mechanism and that the Gen I after market will probably not work on this new Ridge.

What bugs you, is something I like?!!
I put things under the seat all the time and that 'ridge' keeps things from rolling out on the floor :)

Here's to hoping the aftermarket makes a kit like they did for the Gen 1!

I was thinking the same and said Acura did not need to badge a pickup truck the Honda Ridgeline name was all that was required. The tech stuff is what I wanted along with acoustic windshield along a little Torque Vectoring LED headlights driving aids ect. I was looking at 2014 MDX and said this would be my next vehicle but would prefer a Ridgeline with like features. The Pilot came along and had some features. It doesn't have everything but just about enough stuff for me.
I want the Black Edition Ridgeline don't mind black vehicle already have Black Acura. Red lined perforated seats something I would just try.
