It looks cool, but I too am not a fan of the rims. However, despite the way they look, those Michelins are some of the best performing tires out there in street, rain, snow, ice, sand, or mud. I've always thought a more aggressive tread was need for off-road performance, but if you drive on pavement the LTX M/S tire has no equal. Honda did a good job in picking them as the OEM tire for the Gen1.

I'd agree about the LTXs being great tires, a relative's set on his 09' RL lasted around 4 years and 90k miles, still had plenty of tread but the sides were so cracked we decided to replace them for safety's sake, lots of cracking in the tread itself as well, strange stuff. ...
You're right, they do seam to dry rot fairly quickly. Mine are pretty cracked as well, so I'm looking for new tires. For the type of driving and towing I do, I can't find a better tire then the LTX M/S. It's too bad they don't make them anymore. I hope Michelin's replacement tire, the Defender LTX M/S, is just as good but dry rots less.
