Has anyone try to mount the spare in the bed?

I put a full size spare in the bed. I had to buy a 8mm x 1.25 threaded rod and trim it to size as the stock bolt was too short. Surprisingly, I can still see most of what's behind me through the rear view mirror!

Yes, and since we traded in our previous G1 for our new RTL-E we've had to add this routine to our towing checklist when we hitch up our travel trailer.

It will be problematic, if you have a bed cover. I would say look into alternatives like the CURT 31006 Hitch-Mounted Spare Tire Mount.

I just took an Ericksion ratchet and secured against the front bulkhead using the two tie downs in the bed. The load rod is just there as a place to store it.

My bed is empty most of the time and 95% of what I do put in the bed will fit behind the tire. Should that cause an issue I have a Curt receiver mount tire carrier.

he has not been around since May of 2019. I am not sure if you will get a response out of him now.
