To dull down the bright red Start button did the following:
1. Masked extremely well covering everything around the Start button.
Note: Masked just around the annular silver circle surrounding the button.
2. Sprayed PlastiDip Smoke on the button in light coats.
3. Applied 10 light coats at 30 minuted intervals.
Note: Applied 5 the first day and wanted darker so 5 the next day.
Big improvement. Pics will give an idea of the masking and setup.

How about an “after” photo, maybe a day & night one?

Photos may not show correctly. Give it a try if you think it will work. My second set of coats on now so will see if can upload photos tomorrow. I was happy with first results. The key is patience, many light coats. I kept door open for fumes but just closing and opening door you will see blinking white start button to gauge the affect.

Wouldn't it be easier to just lower the "instrument panel" brightness? :)

Instrument panel brightness has no affect:
Headlights ON (night) = Start Button brightness LOW
Headlights OFF (day) = Start Button brightness HIGH
