I've had my RL since 3/13. I have recently, and somewhat sadly, decided that I had discovered all there was to discover and have settled into a comfortable love affair with my truck. But alas I have discovered something else I have not seen discussed in my 8 months on the ROC.

Each morning I drive a long lonely steep downhill country road to my workplace at 6:00 AM. The speed limit is 25, but everyone does 40 or more at that hour with no traffic. The local police recently responded to neighbor's complaints and have started issuing tickets. To prevent meeting one of these officers, like many of my coworkers have ($175.00), I decided to downshift and use the cruise contol set at 27ish and see what its like to almost obey this low speed limit for 5 miles.

It doesn't work. I have discovered that the cruise contol will not turn on in the "2" gear shift position. You have to be in "D".

I'm going to guess they are protecting the engine from over revving if you have it in "2" or hit the lever by mistake with the cruise set at 65 for some length of time. Any one else have any ideas why it is set up this way.

You also have to be going 30 for the cruise to work. 27 may be close enough, but that could be part of your problem as well.
How did you manage to own your RL for 8 months in a six month period? Time Machine? You did'nt tell us about it during our meet! BTW, I think the CC can only be set at speeds above 30 mph...IMBW...

There is a road in my town that has a 30 mph speed limit. It is painful as it is a long stretch of road that has little traffic on it. I have to set my cruise as I invariably go too fast and once, got pulled over. Luckily he took pity on my and just gave me a warning. The RL is way too smooth a ride at times!

I thought of that, but after playing with it, it is definately the gear shift position. I had cruise control on and down shifted and it shuts off.

Actually, on the Ridgeline and other Hondas, 25 is the minimum speed for cruise control.
According to what I have read about the Ridgeline, it is supposed to automatically downshift if it exceeds the set cruise speed by more than a few miles per hour. Actually, I know this to be true; it has done it for me on more than one occasion.
Remember the post on MPG, stay out of crouse on hills and valleys... :D
