What do these fabulous examples of automotive art have in common?

They can only go as fast as the 227,714 cars in front of them. LOL!

Not sure if either of the following qualify as "super cars" but they are pretty cool. I'd never seen a Polaris Slingshot on the street but this one was parked in the lot at the office. Somebody around here has having a fun drive to/from the office.

The body style on this Can Am stomper doesn't ring my ships bell, but ti each his own. An open air lightweight, tube framed, 5 speed 2.4 Ecotec has gotta be a kick in the ass to drive.

When's the last time you saw a 914-6 used as a daily driver? This flared out, mid engine, 2 liter 6 banger with racing seats is in the garage every time I pass thru. Guessing its a 72. Looks like it might do well on a timed slalom course.

Over at California Wraps this morning, garage 2 had this sweet Audi R8 with a stripe project in the works. The owner has had several different vehicles in for various wraps, stripes, color changes or do-overs cuz he changed his mind or wanted a new accent. For example, he changed stripes and accents on a pair of Porsche's 3 times so far. Money and cars go together like Marinara sauce and a nice Chianti, huh?

He traded an R10 in to get this R8 because the V10 exhaust wasn't tuned to his liking. What does it say about a guy who trades a one super car for another because of exhaust notes? I'm pretty sure it says FAT WALLET, or something like that.

As you can see, there is a guide string in place to assist in stripe alignment.

You'd think a car that costs this much would come with a round steering wheel. I can't believe Audi couldn't pull that one off. :act024:

Nice job, I love seeing the RL in the background, when you have time, we'd love to see the "Fleet". As far as I know I think you may have the broadest spectrum of Honda's on the 'ROC'

Just last week I spotted a Ferrari 458 driving through the parking lot of the restaurant where I was having some frosty libations. Last month, I saw my first BMW i8 in Ann Arbor, MI. Didn't have the time to snap pics of either. Other than that, I've seen a few Lambos and various other uber-expensive automobiles around the Pittsburgh area. They're nice to look at and listen to, but I wouldn't own one even if I had the money. There are plenty of fast cars that handle wonderfully out there for well under $100k. Hell, the one I'm looking at is under $50k and that's still quite a lot of money for me to fathom forking over for a vehicle.

Saw this fellow coming up in the rear view mirror. He passed by before I could get the camera ready...

Thought that would be the only opportunity to catch a photo, but then I spotted him again in the rear view mirror on my way into the office parking lot. He musta been lost, otherwise there's no way I would have been him to the office. When I came out from underground, there he was.

How often does a car guy get up close to an Aston Martin Rapide? Ya just gotta get pictures of a 5 second to 60 MPH, 188MPH top speed, 362 cu in, 470 bhp, 443 lbf·ft torque, rear-wheel drive, six-speed Touchtronic automatic, 4 passenger rocket ship, doncha?

I dunno. If I were driving this automotive art, I might be a teeny bit concerned about leaving room in a parking lot for someone's beater to pull in next to me. Maybe writing a check for something like this means no worries about such things?

That car MSRP'd for nearly $225,000.00 in 2013.

Now let's look at some other specs:

2015 Chevrolet SS:

4.6 seconds to 60MPH, 160MPH top speed (governed), 376 cu in, 415 bhp, 415 lb/ft, rear-wheel drive, six-speed Tremic automatic, 5 passenger FASTER rocket ship. All for an MSRP of $46,740. You could have nearly five SS's for the price of one Rapide and be almost as exclusive (only 8000 SS's in the US to date). Just sayin'... :act024:

The Rapide is certainly rolling art whose build/material quality really can't be compared to a Holden/GM product, but I just can't fathom a car that costs as much as my house.

Totally agreed Mr. Ian. IMNSHO: spending that kind of dough is a "look at me" kind of thing. Guess I'll never know what it *really* means, but I'd like to think that even IF I had Benjamin's dropping out my shorts at 40 cycles per second, I'd not participate in ownership of vehicles in that class. Best thing I can say is... cars like that are great to admire from a distance - like lovely curvaceous super models - AND I don't hafta put up with the buckets of B.S. they come with. LOL

Just got back from a walk and noticed the Rapide was still there (in the "2 hour limit visitor spot - no less). Sitting one vacant spot over was a run of the mill Ford family sedan. Do you see what I see? HAHAHA!

I'm with ya, pal. If I were to win the lottery, I wouldn't want a Lambo or a Ferrari or anything like that. I'm sure they're phenomenal works of engineering art, but they just aren't me. I've always wanted a Nissan GT-R and/or a Corvette ZR-1/Z06. Both are right around the $90-110k mark (which is still a lot of money, but not too bad for supercar territory) and both are easily modifiable with loads of aftermarket support. What I would truly want would be a few restomods. I'd get a 1969 Firebird body and throw it on a modern chassis with big modern power and amenities. Likewise, I've always wanted to do a mid-50's Chevy pickup that is chopped, tubbed and on Air Ride. Anyone with more money than brains can go buy a factory-made super car. I have way more respect for those who BUILD their supercar-killing rides.

Apparently, Aston Martin's styling cues influenced Ford, or maybe the other way 'round.

1/4 million $ car looks amazingly similar to an off the lot sedan.

Just did a quick search on this observation. The inter-webs is burbling with it. Guess I didn't really notice it until seeing them side by side yesterday.

Weird, in your first post it looks like those 2 cars are parked near each other, but in the individual photos they look like they're occupying the same parking spot.

Good observation. Same visitor, different day. This morning, the Ford was parked in the spot where the Rapide was parked yesterday.

A buddy of mine bought a new Fusion Titanium nearly two years ago. He was telling me that Ford based the styling from an AM, but I never really knew how much it was similar until you showed these pics. Wow. I know it's sort of hard to patent a "style", but I think AM would have a pretty good case against Ford. This is pretty much the exact same thing that happened with the fuss over the design of the Lincoln Continental concept (shown at this year's auto shows) as compared to the Bentley Continental. They're darn near identical. Apparently, Ford can't come up with anything original.
