This probably been covered but is there an aftermarket solution for the lack of a tailgate lock?

Pop n lock, and I think it's called Dyna lock.

I installed a kit from Dyno Products Inc.

Works great !!
What I haven't quite figured out... and keeps me from buying either is exactly what is the deal with the companies and naming:

First there is "Pop and Lock"
Pop and Lock, LLC
2005-2017 Honda Ridgeline Power Lock

Then there seems to be this "other" company
Dyno Products, Inc.
That appears to have the same look on things and calls it "Pop N Lock"... except their website has a goofy looking 80's chick at the top, and cannot spell "Tacoma" (they have "Tacomma" at the bottom)
Dynoproducts.net
Pop and Lock Tailgate Locks

Anyone know the difference in quality, support, and such?

I would probably avoid the company that can't employ spellcheck properly.

Pop n lock has been around longer I think. Every review I've seen with them has been good.

I have bought from both. Dyno Products is a two man shop and I talked to him about the 2017 RL kit. I consider this to be a medium intensity modification.

You should do a search for this install as I posted one for the Dyno Product and another member did pop n lock.
@Nervey

The Specific DYNO product page is here:
DynoElectic Tailgate Lock

The one you'd posted is ...hmmm...basically, DYNO selling POP-N-LOCK (alternative)...so it's basically...a retailer selling another retailer's product...website still legit

Best to go straight to the source --> DYNO for DYNOLOCK

pop-n-lock for ...well...you know !

I STILL HAVE YET TO INSTALL MINE...tick...:frown: tock...:nerd:

People start out small...relied by word of mouth for reputation, and hope their business spread.

The product seems to work as intended...a few RL owners can attest to that ( soon I will be one too :nerd::surprise: )

There are more important thing in life than a simple typo

In real life...do you instantly make fun of people mispronouncing a word ?? :nerd:

I'm from Ohio and live in Texas. I hear it all the time.

(Don't ever call a "soda" a "pop" in Texas)0:)

If you're in extreme east Texas, and most of the South, it is a "coke", regardless if it is a Pepsi, Coke, 7UP, or any other brand. Makes it confusing for a damn yankee to order a soft drink down there....

Btw, my wife is a Buckeye, but I met and married her in TX.
Why do I see videos of people unlocking the tailgate? I've seen several videos where the person shooting the video has had to unlock the tailgate. Here's an example

Do they just think that it's locked, and then think that they are unlocking it?
The tailgate does not lock..........the trunk in the trunk bed does lock and is coordinated with the door locks........(ie: auto lock). So when you lock the doors the trunk in the bed locks but the tailgate doesn't.....well on my RTL-T model it does anyway....hope that helps.

Yes, I believe that to be the case as well, but I've seen at least 3 videos where they think they have to unlock the doors to open the tailgate. In this video you can hear him trying to open the tailgate a couple of times, and then saying let's get this unlocked here.

Really, this is one of those things that's totally annoying to long-time members around here. Honda made a mistake in its literature and said that the tailgate locked early on. A lot of the salespeople read that and took it to heart. And I'm sure there are videos around of them not pulling the handle hard enough and thinking it was locked. But it definitely does NOT come with either an electronic or mechanical tailgate lock. Period. The reason it's annoying is because there was a wave after wave of newbies coming on last year claiming they were sure that the tailgate locked. Some of them were pretty stubborn about it and had to be disabused of the notion.
On the Pop n lock website it states that they will only warranty kits that they sell directly- not other all other resellers. Not sure if Dyno is an approved reseller or not but I'm not going to take the chance. JFCisme how has the lock held up. Still great? Anyone else do the install?

DynoLock is its own product.
