I replaced my reverse lights with the generic Amazon 921 LEDs: Terrible lighting, bad decision!

I have seen mention of both the VLEDs company and Diode Dynamics, the ROC sponsor.
On the VLEDs site, they have for sale a 2 pack of 921 LEDs they are rating at 500lumen output and are $45.
Diode Dynamics has a pair of their highest available 921s (XP50)at 410lumen output for $90.

Anyone have experience with either of these companies, or yet another company? I would like to support a ROC sponsor but am having a hard time justifying the doubled price-point.

Cheers :act043:

I have replaced my door lights, rear lower console light, bed lights and reverse lights (did not get the XP50) with LEDs from Diode Dynamics and have been very pleased with the results. DD customer service is very responsive and helpful. I will continue to do business with them if I need additional LEDs.

I replaced my Reverse Back Up Light bulbs today with 921 PROFILE PEAK 1.0 LED Bulbs. Light is more white than stock and installation is easy. Plug n Play. It is important to purchase a bulb that sends light from sides of bulb as well as tip so light reflects from tail light housing. I'm impressed with the increased light at night.
Lower tailgate. Unscrew two bolts on each tail light. Tail lights pop off. Remove and replace bulbs. 10 minute job. Nice upgrade for $20 per bulb from the Retrofit Source.

Stock Left. LED Right.

I have Philips backup and brake lamps in my 2008. Had them for years now with no issues. I'd never use no-name stuff from Amazon / ebay. Tried some back in the day before name brand manufactures started making them and they were all junk.

HIGH OUTPUT WHITE 6 LED 921 - 921 - Reverse Back-Up - Shop Application

I have these on my fit (and with the black friday sale I will have these on my RL within the week) and I had them on a Civic...three co-workers are also running them after they saw them on my vehicles. They look almost like headlights when you are going backwards.
Are these direct plug in replacements for the OEM bulbs? (no resistors or anything needed)

Edit: i ordered a pair to try. $64 with the BF discount.

you will not be dissapointed. all my lights are showing up tomorrow. Look for an install thread tomorrow night. (after 30% off, I still spent almost $700 on leds from VLEDS...complete conversion)

I ordered the 5000 version, not the 6000. Which did you get?

I'll try to remember and post OEM vs the new LED in a side by side comparison when I get mine in. I'll put a new one in one side and see how it compares to the OEM in the other side.

Several years ago I put some el cheapo Amazon LED interior lights in my RL and they've done well. I really have no complaints with them.

$700 for full conversion...and 3yr warranty.

I cant justify spending that much, when MOST of my (2007) OEM lights are still burning strong (way beyond warranty) and are a fraction of the cost.

The video is nice Ian, was there a lag from the turn signal being turned off, and the LED returning to parking mode, or is that due to video quality at my Firewalled Gov't computer?

Do you need a grandchild? lol jk~

There is a lag, it is on purpose for the on board chip in the light to verify that the turn signal has been shut off so that it can reactivate the white DRL. I think they have a timer since every manufacturers turn signal delay is different, they set it to a reasonable time that any manufacturers turn signal delay would be.

Got my VLEDs in today and took 5 minutes to do the install. Very nice. It was around 430pm and still too light out to get much perspective, so my comparison with one OEM bulb and one VLED bulb is underwhelming in the pic. But in real life, it's much brighter and whiter than the yellow of the OEM incandescent.

I'm considering ordering a package of bulbs for my wife's Pilot interior. She's had a map light out f-o-r-e-v-e-r and I need to fix it. This will get me off my butt. Hopefully. ;)
