Sorry, I did mine myself.... but there are mucho shops to check out around these parts. Just check "Honda" independents, and stop by for a chat before you decide.... in particular, find out how long they have been there, & scope out how much business they have, and how much of it is Honda. You can also chat up a few of the stand around customers for input. That'd be my search method.

Thanks Dnick. I never have done timing belt. I want to do it myself but chicken out worrying that I screw up the timing then make things worst. I am not able to find anyone who have done it to watch me to replace the belt and make sure I don't screw up something that end up cost me an engine.

Although I'm not in San Diego area, I'm in the same thought process. Willing to do it my self, but paying $900 and getting it done right is less than 2 payments & I haven't had one of those in 5+ years so getting it done right vs a new motor & install I'm just guessing but $3500-$5000 if I do it & get it wrong...

You might try shooting a PM to teamcypher; ask him who he went with & if he was happy. PM will get to him, while he might not be monitoring the forum to see your query. :)

PS. Don't forget to post here if you find something out!

Sorry been out of the area and haven't had a chance to visit either of these shops yet. I am starting to pile on the work I am going to need done for the Hondas that I do own.

I did do some accessory upgrading and after canvasing the area for prices I found that the Honda dealer in El Cajon was by far one of the cheapest.

I bought my Trailer Hitch Harness and had it installed at the dealer for the cost most places were charging me just to buy the part!

If I can get myself to a mechanic and get some reviews going I will definitely pass it along here.

Just saw this thread. Sorry to be late. Harry @ Premier is the shop I use when work exceeds my abilities/comfort zone.

A Honda/Acura specialist shop - the man drives nothing but Honda's and has a beautiful NSX in his stable. When I interviewed him, he let me loose in his shop, what I found was a crew who have been with him for years, some over 2 decades. He doesn't advertise cheap but that ain't a bad thing. He's reasonable and does quality work. Has a brand new Snap On alignment rack too. He's a good, honest man - I recommend with full enthusiasm.

Located in San Marcos just north of Restaurant Row on San Marcos Blvd.

Re: San diego area honda mechanics?

I know this is an old thread but was curious if you could share some info and possibly refer some mechanics?

thanks!
I haven't had a chance to go to a local San Diego shop. If and when I do I will try to post my thoughts on the best option.

But I finally did get to see the new gen Ridgeline this weekend at the O.C. Auto Show and although I still don't like the front of the truck (looks too much like the front of everything else Honda currently makes). This black edition has some nice features!

I can vouch for h n a ( get it? Honda) the owner is a car enthusiast. He takes pride in his work. My co-worker personally knows his family & they went to the same local high school. There is another shop in Carlsbad that had good reviews. Rec by a friend & had my car slogged there.

What part of sd are you close to?

I don't see this mentioned much on this forum, but when I worked at Lexus and did a timing belt replacement, we always replaced the camshaft and crankshaft seals. If those happen to start leaking, not only can it cause the belt to fail, but, if you see the oil in time, you will have to do the entire job again.

Thanks for the responses. I will try to give H N A a try! I can't believe it has been 3 years and the same 3 years since I have visited the Orange County auto show. Still enjoying the Ridgeline displays at the O.C. Auto Show in Anaheim, CA though!
