I bought the Trailer Hitch Kit. My question is, "can you attach the trailer hitch and the wiring harness at the hitch without installing the control box and relays under the dash?" I don't need the control box because my trailer uses surge brakes and not electric.

Had the same question and situation myself. After the studying the wiring diagrams I concluded you need to install everything that's included else your 4 prong conntector at the hitch won't be powered up. See my post on how my installation went:

because your RL has separate wires for the turn signals and brake and your trailer uses the same wires for turn and brake you need the converter. Any good trailer hitch place knows this and is no big deal!!
