Vibrating rearview mirror when it's hot----weird!

All of a sudden just recently now that it's been hot lately in the mid 90's here in Florida my rear view vibrates when I first start to drive so much to the point where it's almost unusable. I notice this most after driving home from work after my truck has been sitting in the sun all day. A/C on or off makes no difference. After I've been driving for a few minutes the vibrations just stop as the windshield and mirror cool off. I checked and it's not loose or wiggly. The screw that holds it against the windshield is also tight. I'm not driving on a rough road, just normal driving. It's the oddest thing. I've never had a vehicle do this.

It vibrates like crazy when hot then just stops----weird!
Does anyone else notice this or is it just my truck?

technology! It has to be the auto adjust malfunctioning...Or your truck is possessed.

Ha, ha, this just happened to me on Saturday. Truck had been sitting in the sun and the mirror felt quite warm. I have a RT, so it's a dumb, mechanical mirror.

Maybe it's a Tampa thing? Lolz.
Didn't someone else bring this up previously, not sure if they figured out a solution.
Wonder if somehow the heat allows the truck to vibrate at the natural frequency of the mirror.

Sounds like you may have a misfiring cylinder or two until it gets warmed up?
I just installed the auto dimming rearview mirror from handa. Much better quality mirror-problem solved!

I've seen it too with the vibrating mirror...when hot out because I didn't remember seeing such a thing during the winter.
The auto dimming one need a power source?

You have to remove the overhead console and connect to the wiring that's already in place. 5 min install job if you're handy and comfortable taking apart your vehicle. The auto dimming mirror is a much beefier mirror design and totally fixed the issue with vibrations.

what does the dealer say about it? Why diagnose it yourself?
My truck has been into the dealer twice for the vibrating interior rear view mirror. The first time the technician 'claimed' to have tightened the set screw. ah huh?! The second time the tech 'forgot' to complete that portion of the work order.

In my case the windshield is fine and the mirror stops vibrating when I rest my finger on the bottom of it.

The door garnish came loose on my driver's door so they will need to check the mirror when the garnish is replaced. I hate incompetence!
I have a 2017 RTL, bought in May 2017. The rear-view mirror shakes horribly when on a road with cracks in it (more roads than not). I live in AZ with summer temps into the 110's, and winter 60's.
I took it back to the dealer in Sept 2017, where they reluctantly replaced the entire mirror. They wanted to only replace the mount, and claimed they had never heard of this happening before. I drove off that lot and it was only slightly better, but as the "cooler" winter temps were approaching, it became almost tolerable.

But as the 2018 summer approached, it again got to the point where I could not tell if it was car or truck behind me, much less what make or model, or color vehicle it was. It became impossible to tell if the vehicle behind was 30 feet back, or 300 feet back. The shaking mirror became a safety issue.

I took it in again in June 2018. They refused to drive it first, but again reluctantly replaced the entire mirror again. And claimed it solved the problem (without having driven it) this time when I picked it back up. The service manager also admitted that the heat was likely causing the problem.

As I drove off this time, it was shaking as bad as when I brought it in. So much so, that I had doubts that they actually replaced it. I took it back immediately and made the manager drive it 3 miles down roads with cracks in them. He realized how bad it was, but said nothing more could be done, as it was the 3rd mirror since coming off the factory floor. He stopped short of agreeing with me that the design was flawed.

Sooo... I can confirm that the mirror design is flawed, it gets much worse with warmer temperatures, and Honda will not fix it.

I will now look into the aftermarket mirrors to buy and put in my new Ridgeline still under full warranty and less than 22,000 miles. This is very disappointing. After this and a few other issues with this 2nd gen truck, and so many fewer issues with my previous 06 (Dang, I loved that truck!), I may have serious doubts with a 3rd gen Ridgeline.

If anyone has other ways to resolve the shaking mirror issue, other than duct tape, let me know.

Safety issue? Report it to the NHTSA:

I think statements like "oh, well, there's nothing else we can do" is just bull****. They're tired of dealing with it, that's all.

I am certain that you have other members that own the G2 in Arizona, so hopefully someone will see this post.

My only suggestion is, have you replaced your windshield? If so maybe go there and see if it was installed correctly?

EDIT: I also suggest you get a video so other members can see your issue.
I will say that I once had a 1976 Mustang Cobra II and I had problems with the rearview mirror bouncing around like you mention. By putting my hand on the mirror I could stop the vibrations but like you mention it's a hazard seeing behind you when driving on a bumpy road. I did end up trying a mirror from the auto parts store and it didn't fit on the shoe right. I did end up replacing the shoe and with the already purchased mirror it worked fine from then on. Sounds to me like your shoe is the problem here. Maybe you'll get a new one of those soon when the windshield gets a crack in it. I do know you can't just remove the shoe as it'll damage the windshield. Soooo. In my case they used lousy glue on the windshields back then and it was common for the mounts to fall off. (like the rest of the cars fell apart back then too)

Not to detract from the discussion of the rear view mirror, the underlying point is Honda's refusal to address valid complaints. i have a '17 RTL-E that is uncomfortable in the winter with unaddressable cold interior temperatures and a front window defrost system that just doesn't work. The dealer says "they are all like that, including the new style Pilot" After numerous discussions with high level customer service reps at Honda the final dismissal was "We are sorry you don't like your new truck, case closed." Another friend with a new CRV has had several dealer visits to address problems with the front brakes, his dealer says previously we would replace rotors, callipers, and pads to address customer satisfaction issues, now Honda won't pay for that and in general deny many more warrantee claims than before. I'm a senior and have owned many vehicles, this was my first Honda and will be the last, based not on the design and quality of the product but totally on the lack of customer service after the sale. Researching this forum will show I am not the only one with poor heating complaints, as well as other "G2 Ridgeline new vehicle" complaints, but having canvassed several Service Managers at different Honda dealers the response is common "Our hands are tied, Honda won't pay our claims". There is lots of choice in new vehicles from many different manufactures and other than the heating issue I think this is a great vehicle, however with what seems to be Honda's current policy on warrantee claims they just don't deserve a piece of the action in new vehicle sales.

It's seems odd that the mirror is the only thing vibrating. Are you sure the entire truck is not vibrating and it is more obvious in the mirrror? It sounds like driveline vibration to me. High temperatures can cause tire issues to become more prevalent also such as an out-of-round tire. Even new tires can have issues. Believe me, I know.
I'm having my mirror replaced on Monday. I'll let you know if the replacement is any better than the original.

With all of this loose mirror talk, I checked mine, and it is loose. It doesn't vibrate, though.
I have this issue too. I’ll be bringing up this and a few other things when I go in for my first service.
