Hey I have a 08 ridgeline lx (Canadian version) and I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a synthetic replacement for the vtm-4 rear diff fluid and transfer case fluid. I am moving to yellowknife North West Territories and it can get to below -40 celcius. Going all synthetic everything else.

Transfer case - use whatever GL-4/GL-5 you like, so yes.

Diff-VTM-4, no. Must use Honda fluid, the internals are not like a domestic diff. Although I wouldn't be sirprised if the Honda fluid was synthetic.

Might want to use the Mobil1 75w-90 hypoid gear oil for the transfer assembly. I believe that is synthetic.

I got my case of DW-1 today from Curry Acura. The bottles have Acura on the label, not Honda. I guess they want Acura owners to think they are getting something special. Seems ridiculous to have 2 different labels for the same ATF.

Yes after some research I believe your right. Aparently from what ive read is that almost all BorgWarner diffs take synthetic only. Now to find out how to get some here.

I think I will leave the autotrans fluid honda, from what I hear they work best with the honda fluid. How ever I will get some high quality synthetic transfer case fluids. thanks!

Just to update this post, VTM-4 is the only recommended fluid. I use AMSOIL exclusively for all other fluids but the rear diff has no alternative recommedation.
