So I am pretty good "acquaintances" with a dude that owns a wheels and tires store here in Florida. I went in today just because I was curious as to what kind of price he would give me on some wheels and tires. I told him I didn't want to spend too much money.
He told me that he could get me
17" AR mainline wheels
265/65/17 terra grapplers
And a traxx 2" lift
All installed and aligned, out the door for $2000.

Is he giving me a good deal because we're buddies or is that about right?

$1400 worth of wheels and tires. $600 for a lift is a little high. That said I would get tires/wheels and skip the lift. A lift does nothing for allowing bigger tires.
Yeah his giving you a good deal I'd say.
If the wheels fit, tire rack says no but thats just 1 site.
If I bought the items (quick search):
Tires: 686.00
Wheels: 600.00
Lift: 238.00
My shop to mount & balance 4 tires: 160.00
Now add tax and shipping (it's more than you think) for all items and he's installing the lift for free.
It sounds ok, according to skelley what he did not include was labor, which labor is expensive most of the time.
Hey thanks guys. Well according to the fit chart on here the 265/65/17 will fit with taking the mud flaps off and possibly some light grinding.
But hmm he did mention that he would have to charge labor for installing the lift, so maybe he was cutting some cost on the wheels/install. Still not sure if I'm going to go through with it.
Not to bad of a price. Lift does everything for allowing bigger tires. I fit 265/65/17 with the lift with no modifications. They were mild a/t though. A/T with a sharp edge will require cutting a small bump off the mudguards.
A lift does 0 for bigger tires. You can fit the exact same tire with or without.

Sorry let me be more precise. Street driven trucks going to a 265/65/17 which is about a 30.5 in tire...shouldnt rub except at full lock DEPENDING ON THE EDGE OF THE TIRE!!! If it is a street tire you shouldnt rub.

My 265/65/17 a/t rubbed very little with the lift...so I imagine it would have rubbed more without. My 265/65/17 m/t rubbed like a some biatch. My current 265/70/17' M/T required a good amount of trimming and grinding.

If you are basing your "FACT" on your michelins which are 30.5 in your sig...then duh...your street tires wont rub cause it doesnt have the hard edge some a/t's do(which is what a terra grappler is). So in your case a lift would do nothing for clearance.
Actually I put the tires on and it rubbed a little at 3/4 turn. I put the lift on two weeks later and it rubbed at 3/4 turn. Where the tires rub and where you have to grind doesn't change with a lift. It's the side of the tire that hits and a lift isn't changing that.

Ok I understand. I havent had a stock/untrimmed mudguard on the ridge ever so im assuming it does not dip backwards right behind the tire which would mean the center rotation of the tire would drop lower and have clearance for the dip in the mudguard. I admit fault!
