That looks like a good solution. What is a "Go Magnet"? I'm guessing it has an adhesive back to adhere to the inside of the console cubby, then with magnets on the other side to hold the S&W secure?
? Brass, copper and lead are all either non-magnetic or react so weakly that they are considered non-magnetic. If you are using steel case ammo (cheap Russian-made stuff, etc.), I suspect it is for a larger weapon than a handgun and therefore unlikely to be held by a magnet. Either that, or you might want to rethink using cheap ammo...Be very careful using magnets on any handgun; the magnetism will cause the rounds to deviate towards north = missed target.

I was hoping that the comment about magnets making rounds track toward magnetic north was tongue-in-cheek, but you never know.? In any case, I've never seen any information that indicates a gun magnet could affect ammo. If you have, please share.
Just my $.02
I appreciate the security of the lock box, but a weapon is useless unless you can access it in seconds -- especially in a vehicle where the bad guy is usually very close before the situation becomes deadly. It always amuses me when you hear liberals say that weapons in the home should be locked up separately from the ammunition.Be very careful using magnets on any handgun; the magnetism will cause the rounds to deviate towards north = missed target.

I agree with your points. I just purchased a VP9 after using .40 caliber pistols exclusively for the past twenty or so years. I have yet to shoot it.I was hoping that the comment about magnets making rounds track toward magnetic north was tongue-in-cheek, but you never know. !
I will admit it, I was wrong. They'll actually turn NE due to the earths rotation.

That is why mine reside within easy reach; currently two are sitting here with me, one on my desk and an upright shotty on the floor.
Now this weekend all but one (holstered) will be locked away (grandkids visiting where I may be tempted to quiet them - or their parents).
But lock boxes are still useful, IE: if you have to leave it behind (court date, schools, etc.).

Gun Magnets Is the site I picked them up at. The backing plate is screwed to the inside wall of the center console. That looks like a good solution. What is a "Go Magnet"? I'm guessing it has an adhesive back to adhere to the inside of the console cubby, then with magnets on the other side to hold the S&W secure?
No worries about the flash drive. The only time I've ever had one in there was when I changed my display on the radio. As far as why I have this mounted this way? Ease of access. The way you see it is the way I ride down the road. the only motion I need is to reach for the firearm. In that situation, life and death can be measured in milliseconds. No point in owning a firearm if its not ready to fire when you put your finger on that trigger.Friendly NERD reply.
Magnets and computer media (flash drives) are not good bed fellows. So if you keep flash memory in your storage area i would not use that magnet option....which happens to look very cool!
I simply have my revolver in a soft case in the storage bin currently. I will end up inventing a way to mount it the way you did. Probably a project for the spring. When i do i will post pictures.
They look pretty young... Don't you have to use a car seat? How every Canuck secures them
