Why doesn't Honda offer dash camera as option?

I wish the Ridgeline came with a factory option of a dash camera. It seems no car company has that as an option. Does anyone know why?

I don't think more than 2% of the market would initially want one tbh
I think that as more and more cameras are added as Sensing technology improves for its next iteration, they will eventually trickle in. Remember, Toyota offers a go pro mount on the Tacoma. Problem is that look how Honda rips you off for navigation versus just plugging in a Garman. It most likely will be the same for a dash cam.
At the least they could install a factory power outlet on base of rear view mirror assembly where someone could power up a dash cam or radar detector.

It should be a pretty simple thing for any car stereo installer to rig up a power supply by the rear view mirror. Im betting most folks on this site would be more interested in a locking tailgate & cooled seats.

Wow! I wish Honda offered that option. My interest was stimulated by having received a ticket for passing a stopped school bus from a very unreasonable State Trooper; something I had not done. Court offered cheaper option to plead guilty, pay court cost and attend, for a fee, traffic school, but I was innocent so decided to risk $1000 fine, points and increased insurance cost. I assumed I had no better than 50:50 chance as it was my word against the Trooper's, but in pre-trial meeting after hearing my version of events the State's atty. dropped the charges. A dash cam would have made life a lot simpler. Additionally could provide evidence regarding accidents or incidents of road rage.

I have this dual camera set up on my motorcycle. When the key is on, the recording begins on the front and rear cameras. The video is not GoPro quality but it is decent. The DVR component has a LCD screen to preview or for on the go replays. I really don't use that feature since the unit is mounted under the seat of my motorcycle.

If I install a dashcam in the truck I will most likely go with a dual camera front/rear system. With al the texting drivers on the road the chances of getting hit from behind are much higher than they used to be.

Here's a sample video I recorded on the Million Dollar Highway, Silverton, to Ouray, Colorado

That camera set up would be ideal for Ridgeline and seemingly simple since they already have rear camera. Be great to have a 30 minute loop where if something happened you could store the period of importance.
Did the same route in reverse-out of Ouray to Durango on my BMW GS 1150. Ascent out of Ouray is a little hairy as it's straight down about 100' feet to river below with no guard rail on right side. I was hugging center line hoping no car came wide around turn. Route would be a good sobriety test; no ticket necessary for those guilty of DUI.

There are two cameras. Also it will accommodate a 64 GB SD card and it records in user defined loops. I have mine set at 5 minute intervals. There is also a button that if something "significant" happens I hit the button and it stores that loop to a different folder on the data card. It even backs up a little time so it will capture what just occurred. There is also a GPS feature that displays the location and speed (you can hide that).

I was riding my BMW R1200GSA. We also found the Silver Thread Scenic Byway on the road to Lake City. Great riding everywhere.

The road from Pagosa to Taos. But watch the deer. The cameras are wide angle so this is much closer than it looks.

I think less than 2% would actually be willing to pay extra for in bed stereo and look what Honda did.

Maybe, but I probably would've. Sounds more appealing in a commercial than a dash cam though...
A dash cam or even a USB power port, multiple preferably, at the top of the windshield around the mirror or sun visors would be higher on my priority list than the in bed speakers. To be able to plug in a camera or another GPS or even your passenger plugging in their phone and sticking it up on the visor would be a very nice option.

I have both a Garmin and a Viofo camera sitting here. I'll decide which I'm going to wire in come spring. I had the Garmin in my G1 and used it twice in legal cases. Once to show a semi-truck had come through a red light. I swerved and just missed him. The car behind me wasn't so lucky. Second, was to (successfully) dispute red light camera ticket as I could should I came to a complete stop before turning right on a red light.
