Just confirmed in an RTL: iPhone with Google Maps gives turn by turn audio through vehicle speakers using Bluetooth.

Yes it's not quite as good as getting the screen, but it's less distraction and you definitely get used to navigating by ear rather than sight. I notice in our '15 Outback that I get the most distracted when there seems to be some conflict between what nav is saying and what it is showing. Oh and state of the art iphone costs less and maps always up to date...
