Gotta be one of my Pete peeves. Our '04 tahoe will sometimes slam 2 gears down. Can this truck hold top gear and if it drops down, 1 is it smooth? I'm particularly interested in being able to keep cruise control on our trips from charleston sc to Hendersonville ,nc. On i26. At least until we get to the big climb up the mountain as you enter NC. ** title should read "small hills".

This is a great question. It's also something we did not get a chance to test on a recent test drive.

I understand the chryslers with the FWD 9 speed transaxle are terrible in this regard. Looks like Honda was smart with their gear ratios and sticking with the 6 spd in this application. Manufacturers searching for more mpg and making their top gears ever taller are gaming the EPA tests but making for a terrible ownership experience.
