Wiper Blades terrible In The Winter

8221 Views 25 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  ronjuan18
The wiper blades they used on the RL are very poor for winter use. They freeze up way too easily and end up wiping half the windshield on both driver and passenger side. Will be replacing both of them with a good all weather non hinged design called a beam style which do not freeze up and are good all year round. Costco on line in my neck of the woods carries the Trico Ice which I will give a try. TRICO Ice®: Extreme Winter Wiper Blades | TRICO® Windshield Wipers

An excellent alternative (also from TRICO) is the TRICO Force. I've used them exclusively on my G1, my two RAMs (ironically the same exact size as the G1 blades) and now on my G2. In the States, they are called TRICO Onyx at Advance Auto (Force everywhere else).

Noticed you are in Montreal...I see they sell and stock these at the LEBEAU VITRES D'AUTOS locations. For the States, best deal is via Rock Auto (don't forget to look up a 5% discount code). Part#s 25-260 & 25-240 from TRICO.

I switched them immediately after delivery of the G2. They are a good blade in winter and intended for all year use. A heavy blade. In use during my 10+ hour Toronto Snowpocalypse ordeal on Thursday and the week of winter weather here in Western NY.

A good way to use one set of blades year round and be confident. They last a long time as well (12-18 months before they get too streaky).

So its kind a like the tire thread thing on this new RL, you gotta have special winter tires and now wiper blades cause the stock ones suck to get around during the winter months. Just wonderin............-24 here this morning the high was -6 will the stock wipers work in that extreme cold.
Most wipers that are of the standard hinged type work poorly in winter. Problem is the ice builds up in all the metal to metal sliding areas which prevents the wiper from conforming to the windshield. This is a common issue in snow country however if they would have used a beam style design we would not be having this discussion as they are good year round.
I use the wiper with the soft thin rubber ...sleeve? The flex of the wiper knocks the ice off and in the summer, it seems to protect it from the sun. They work so much better then stock wiper in the SUMMER I was shocked. Regular blades last 3 months if I am lucky, the last pair I put on last YEAR! I do not know what they are called. I just bought blades friday night and they did NOT have the ones I use, They had "ice" blades...no rubber sleeve so I have my doubts. One storm and I can decide if they will be put away from the summer and find the sleeved blades.
Nothing beats a new pair of wiper blades, it is like a new truck!
I need to replace the blades on my car and on the Ridgeline for my sister.
I put new ones on the Ridgeline when I had it in for last major service and they replaced airbags. I told her to replace with winter blades that were on the Ridgeline. I think she told me AAA auto club may have replaced them when they came out for jump when she was having problem with battery drain what turned out to be door lock actuator. I put new blades on but she did not want to get the slightly more expensive ones what she had on already a winter blade. I told her to go around to AutoZone and get winter blade then take what I put on and use next spring.
I got to do the same thing with my Acura I put new blades on but they are not of the winter type. These are Bosh blades on Acura & Ridgeline but not beam or winter blades. Bosh makes different types of blades as do others so just depends. The G2 probably has standard blade like other vehicles it's up to you to change them. I will change the Bosh frame type blade I have on each vehicle with Bosh of the beam type for winter use.

Anyone try those Michelin Stealths from Costco? I was tempted to get them the other day but wanted to check for reviews first.
Do not bother with those, relatively mediocre is how I would rate them. Whatever you do, I highly recommend you get a beam style blade which by the way the Michelins are not. Since you are a Costco member and from Sask, give these a whirl. You want a 240 and a 260 by the way. TRICO Ice Extreme Winter Weather Wiper Blades Replacements

I don't have an issue with the blades freezing too badly but I usually keep the heated windshield on... Are you doing the same?

Yep on all the time however this does nothing for freezing wiper blades.

Is their now a switch to activate the heated windshield. On my "06" its automatic with the temp and does a wonderful job keepin the blades from freezin.
Yes. Temperature dependant and there is a switch.

What switch for heated windshield?? I have BE, I was curious if they kept the heater wiper blades or not...

So 240/260 is the size?

Another one that looks to be Canadian models only. I don't see in on the US spec sheet. It's listed under "Exterior" on the Canadian spec sheet.

Switch is on the climate control panel. When you use the remote start if the temperature is low it turns on automatically for 10 minutes, along with the rear window defroster, heated steering wheel and heated seats (heated/cooled seats only).

I wondered about the steering wheel and seats... my Raptor would heat or cool seats depending on temp... haven't used remote start very long... the 10 minute run time isn't very long, i don't see a way to change that i saw though to a 15 minute

I think this is a Canadian option only. Just to be clear, the windshild is heated where the wiper blades sit when at rest, not the wipers themselves. This is meant to prevent the wipers from freezing to the windshield and produces very little heat therefor no way can it unfreeze frozen wiper blades. Size 240 and 260 is Tricos way of saying 24" and 26" which is what you need. Got a set of RainX latitudes at Walmart this morning which are beam style, plug and play. So far so good but no real weather to test them out yet except for cold.
Bosch Icon's look awesome, so i'm going to grab a set of those and see how they do. Drove home saturday night in all the crap we had and the stock blades were all iced up, sucked.

Wierd, 2016 Pilot shows 26A and 22B for sizes. 2017 Ridgeline doesn't show up, i would have guessed the pilot was the same.

Don't have the heated windshield option aparently on the BE here in the US. Beyond what is done automatically.

I ordered a 26A, 24A and 22B Bosch Icon blade from Amazon, i'll return the one that doesn't fit for passenger side. Not sure if it's a 24 or 22, this thread is saying 24", but i'm seeing 26" driver and 22" passenger listed for a 2016 Pilot, which i'm GUESSING is the same windshield.

A vs B deals with length and curvature. you can have a 22A or 22B, but 24 and 26 only come in A.
