Sounds to me like some sort of mechanical issue with the shift lever and not with the transmission itself.

My 2007 Ridgeline is having similar problems, the difference is that it will not shift out of park. When I attempt to shift it into gear, ALL of the warning lights come on. I unlock it using the steering lock release on top of the column. Could this be a solenoid problem also?

Here's a troubleshooting guide that may help:

Rectangle Font Parallel Circle Number

The only test I found for the shift lock solenoid (page 14-286) involves the use of the HDS (Honda diagnostic system) which is not likely found in a homeowners garage.

Might be best to take that by the Honda shop and let them diagnose.

Is there a switch that won't let it go into D unless there's someone in the seat? I just bought a 2007 and I have trouble, but the guy that sold it to me could just sit in in and have it work. If I wriggle my butt I can make it go into D - I assume my wide rear is sitting on the bolsters and not "in" the seat and the truck doesn't realize that I am there.
