Looks like rust spots. On plastic???

Can anyone elaborate on what is causing this or what "this" is? They look like rust spots but they show up on the plastic sections of the RL. With enough elbow grease, and I mean enough, they will rub off. Not sure what's going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you keep a coat of wax on the paint?

This was on a previous vehicle, but for about 5 years I parked about 20 feet from a regularly traveled train track. My white car developed spots that looked very much like yours. With a little internet research I discovered it was metallic rail dust that deposits and causes rust stains everywhere it lands, even plastic parts. Any thing in your travels that could be similar? Full removal in my case wasn't possible without damaging the clear coat...unfortunately. Clay bar helped some.

Agree with schwejo. Metal dust or filings rusting. I'm wondering if the truck was near somebody grinding metal and the hot sparks stuck to the plastic. Or behind a truck or car on the road dragging a metal part on the road. Have seen similar with the old style metal brake pads when overtaxed like when used for racing or panic stops.

Yep, I have had the same issue. I use a polish that has a super-fine grit in it (fine or finer than baby powder), to take out swirls in the paint, and that kinda thing. That removes it. In my experience clay bar didn't even touch it, but a good polish will.
