I need some advice on how to get rid of the puke smell in my 07RTL. After stopping to pick up some childrens Mylanta at a Walgreens my daughter waited to throw up until we were at a stop light and I couldn't get to her quick enough to save the interior:( . This wasn't a minor episode either (we're talking voluminous here). My wife's Pilot has gone through this a few times over the years but the smell never lasts. Will I need to fork out the dough and get the RL detailed? Does baking soda work? Any suggestions are appreciated.

and i will be second

First, I'd just say to other RL owners to Scotch Guard your seats! I did this the first weekend after I bought my RL.

Second, as you were not protected, I'd get ride of her. Talk to your wife about having another daughter...:p

I hope she's feeling better. Your truck will survive.

Well, you have a few options to clean things up, but as you mentioned the smell really lingers around and you will notice it when you think it goes away.
You can try a few options:
1. If you don't mind the smell of coffee, stick a few beans or a handfull of coffee beans that you like in a cloth or gauze and tie it in an area where the air moves i.e. ventilations vents or vent ducks under the seats.
2. Fabreeze the area every 3 days to mask the area out.
3. use a carpet cleaner type vacuum for you seat
4. Stick a Arm & Hammer Freezer box type with vents on the sides inside, open the box and put 2 charcoal brisquets inside the box and reseal it and place it inside your RL, preferably near the area of the puke. so it can absorb the smell.
5. Get an ionizer air purification that you can plug in the accessory plug in the back.

If all fails, get a nose plug, or air filter mask, and drive with all the windows down. You will look ridicoulous but there won't be any smell to smell :D

Sorry for stealing the thread but when my wife was pregnant with our first kid, we were on our way to trade in my 1985 Honda Accord for a new 1990 Toyota Supra Turbo. Only a few minutes from the dealership sitting at a red light my wife says she is gonna puke. I told her not in the car !! I grabbed her purse and handed it to her...... well, got to the dealership without a drop of puke in my car.....:D

Thanks to all for the advice. My daughter is feeling better. She felt really bad about the whole thing (pretty mature for a six year old). The whole family was out for the count for a day or so (some kind of 24 hour bug). Now I know how my wife feels! Her Pilot is the family truckster and it's had plenty o upchuck incidents.

Your truck is just fine & if you use the correct cleaning products for this problem you will forget about it.
There are plenty on the market to take care of this for good or untill it happens again. Meguiar's makes an ODOR ELIMINATOR that works quite well.
I use to use it all the time when I had my dog that was in the car almost as much as me. When he was a pup the first day I had him I took a trip & he threw up in the car. I went to PEP BOYS & found this stuff by Meguiar's & I have used it for years. I just checked the www.meguiar's.com site I put in odor eliminator they have it but its in the big bottles. I use to get a smaller size bottle from the auto stores or Walmart & Kmart auto section. It was in gold yellow pump spray bottle. Its good for getting odors out of the car for good like vomit.

I went thru this just last week, with my 5 year old getting sick in the truck. Not the first time for one of the kids to do this  But its part of life....

I have some covers over my seats (actually, an old beach towel) to cut down on this, so something to consider in the future.

What I have to laugh about is the timing of the whole thing. Some of you that are fathers will know what I'm talking about. We stopped at Walgreens because my daughter thought she may throw up. I went in to pick up some kids Mylanta while the family waited in the RL. As soon as we turned into traffic and got stuck at a red light she projectile vomited:eek: I have to laugh (now anyway) at how perfectly they seem to time things. I've seen this happen to my wife many times. They do grow up fast!

So is your divorce final yet?

An old detailer's trick I learned while in the car business was a package of wintergreen gum, the big pack. Just take the wrapper off the top and slide it under the seat and after a few days it will absorb the odor.
I did this to get a really bad smell (scallop juice) out of my Element.

I have the only solution to be 100% effective...... Adoption :)
