Are Honda Service records available at every dealer?

Say I were to buy a used Ridgeline, but don't know (and can't find out) where the original owner had it serviced. Does Honda have a centralized record system that would allow my dealer to have access to the maintenance records for services done at Honda dealers? Would this become a question if issues came up with the original, transferable warranty?
Thanks.

par 3773,

Sounds like since you new of the dealer where your vehicle was purachased this made it possible for the 2nd dealer to get the records using the VIN #.

Like djw, I bought a used RTL and have no idea where this truck was purchased and my local dealer told me they could not find out by the VIN #. I was trying to see what servicing has been done and what work might have been perfromed. Perhaps they are not playing nice with me but why would they not?

Would a Car Fax report could give the original purchase dealer info?

gobo,

A Carfax report SHOULD give the original dealer's name. I believe the only information that is universal and available to all dealerships is warranty or recall work. I think things like oil changes, etc. are not viewable by other dealerships (someone who works at a dealership can confirm/correct this).

All dealers have access to the warranty repair records for the past 3 years and that's about it. But what you can do is to get a warranty repair history report from your current dealer, then if there are any warranty repairs recorded it will give you the dealer number of which dealer did the repair. So ask the service advisor to find out which dealership the number corresponds to, then call them or visit them and see if you can get any maintenance records that they might have available.

Hope that helps.

P.S. With your VIN I can run you the warranty repair history and see if there are any repairs listed with the associated dealer number, however I have misplaced my little black book of dealerships that lists all the dealerships and their dealer number so I can't help with that, but your dealership should be able to if they have the book of dealers.

No problem, glad to help.

I've attached a pdf copy of the warranty repair history.

It shows that the selling dealer number is 207983

There have been three warranty repairs on the vehicle, two of them have been done at the selling dealer, so that's the one (if I were the one looking for the records) where I would call to see if they have any maintenance records available for your vehicle.

The history report also shows that your vehicle still needs to have TSB 06-012 (Ridgeline inner door handle clips) performed on it as it's still an open campaign.

The three repairs listed are :
052099 - A repair pertaining to the Navigation unit where a part did not have to be replaced.

748123 - POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR, RIGHT REAR; WITH OR WITHOUT LATCH ASSY - Replace. (RIDGELINE)

125517 - reprogram ECM/PCM (possibly done in conjunction with another type of repair that is not listed)

If your local Honda dealer doesn't have their book of dealer numbers than you may be able to call American Honda in Torrance, CA and ask the receptionist to whom you need to speak to find out which dealer is dealer number 207983

Very cool!
The last repair was for the tranny software issue. I was the one who took it in for that job. They said they reprogramed the software, the TSB 62-062. Another question - if 06-012 is the door clips, what is 06-085 that is on the report too? I'll be getting the OEM camera installed soon, I'll mention the door clips at that time. I've been seeking a recommendation for a Honda dealer in my area and I just got one. The dealer that I went to for the tranny issue - well lets say, I didn't come away with warm fuzzy feelings about them. Nothing serious. Just a gut feeling.

Thanks so much,

DesertRidgeline,

I just called American Honda and located the original owners' dealer, thanks to your numbers! Getting all this past info is giving me a peace of mind, I'll be getting a Car Fax report too and that should be it. My mechanic of 15 years frequently buys car/trucks at auction and sell them on his lot or you can request a specific vehicle and he'll find one. This is the 3rd vehicle I've purchased from. He drove my RL as his personal vehicle, for a short time, before I bought it. So I have a element of trust going on here. I seem to be working backwards in getting the necessary info about a vehicle, but like I said there is a element of trust going on with my mechanic, he takes care of me and does whats right. I got a great truck at a great price and I couldn't be happier.

You seem to have much info available to you in your "own little world", must be a happy place! Care to box up pieces of it and sell it? Moving on, thanks again!

This is a long shot calling up this old thread, but would I be able to get the same help researching my Ridgie?

Thanks.

Phil.

Too bad the dealership that's within walking distance couldn't look in a data base and realize that I bought my last three Hondas from a dealership 50 miles away because they wouldn't deal!

I still get our Hondas serviced there though and the do have good service.

Might i digress...

That sounds exactly like my dealer who is one mile away. We had to go to a dealer 20 miles away for my Civic, and 30 miles away for my RL. They do get all of our business for service though.
