My 2018 RTL-T has 55,000 miles and it seems just as smooth and powerful as when it had 37 miles on it when I bought it on New Years Day 2018. MST miles are highway 75 mph. Today my Honda dealer did my routine service and recommended “fuel injector service” at $230. No parts just cleaning and a can of cleaner in tank. I passed for today. How do I know if I need this?
I put a can of Seafoam in the tank about every 10,000 miles and always use top-tier gas.
Thanks for any tops.

True, but if your RL exhibits the issue from the TSB, no fuel additive is going to solve the problem. Only a replacement of parts will.
I was just simply pointing out to the OP that there currently is an SB involving their 2018 Ridgeline which will cover injector issues if the need ever arises.

I had those problems and those codes at 36,300 miles. Same dealer replaced injectors per the bulletin and it has worked fine. Today I asked service to check since the injectors are not that old. They couldn’t find the record. But I know they changed them and I recall that truck was just a couple hundred miles past the 36K warranty. They were able to cover under warranty at that time.

Fuel injectors just got the warranty extended on them to 10 years/150K miles for '17-'19 Ridgelines so no need to worry about cleaning them. Any time a dealer "recommends" a service, ask them to show you in the owner's manual where it is listed as either recommended or required at your particular mileage/driving conditions. If they can't, then tell them hard pass.

You'll receive an "Emissions System Problem" warning message and a "check engine light" long before you notice any drivability symptoms if there is a problem with the injectors.

The dealer injector service usually entails injecting cleaner into a fitting in the engine compartment. It does a much better job than 'pouring' a can of cleaner into the tank. I am not saying whether you need that treatment or not but is does take a bit of time to do it properly. In my neck of the woods, labor is billed at about $140 an hour.

Been running discount gas from nearest/cheapest source for 50+ yrs on multiple vehicles including my '07 Ridge. No dealer injector cleaning ever and never a problem with drivability. All gas has a minimum required detergent load per federal govt. regs. plus all gas before the detergent is added is generic, coming from the same distributor tanks regardless of name on the tanker. Federal law dictates chemical formulation for plain "gas". Only differentiator is the "top tier" proprietary detergent blend added when the gas is pumped into the tankers, but it's a secret concoction so no way to ever know if not just marketing B.S.

Gas is gas as long as it's not purposely contaminated or adulterated at the retail level, and it's a federal offense to do so.

I'd bet you a six pack that if an injector service was properly done on your '07, using the product & method our shop has done for years, you would feel a difference.

I have been adamantly defending our dealer for not trying to push snake oil services upon us up to now, but this may be changing here soon. I am seeing in our service notes that they will be recommending "fuel injection service" on our next visit. I have armed myself with Service Bulletin 21-010, Warranty Extension: MIL Comes On with DTC P0420/P0430, P030x,and/or P219A/B (Without Software Update), and I would like to clarify what this software update is all about?
Thanks,
Bill

Added note: I also previously contacted Honda a week or so ago asking them about their recommendations for performing this service, of which I have yet to receive a response.

We had a dealer try and push the same service on us when we were in for the injector tsb. It's crazy to me how folks will lie and cheat their customers out of their money. I cannot imagine living life that way and being able to feel good about myself...

Where can I find the information on the warranty extension?
