Ridgeline vs Pilot

So in looking for a RL I've seen some Pilots mixed in with the Ridgies. They are the same platform except with a bed. So why is the same year and trim Ridgeline so much costlier than the same level Pilot? ? I've noticed this many times. What am I missing?

I don’t know that’s totally correct, though I haven‘t compared them in detail. I got a top of the line Pilot as a loaner the other day and it was $50K. Not much extra compared to my RL except cooled seats and retractable mirrors.

I didn’t like the infotainment system as much as the Ridgeline.

I also think my RL has more pep, though maybe it’s my imagination.

Supply and demand. There are currently more than 10,000 used Pilots listed for sale on CarGurus.com. There are less than 2,000 used Ridgelines listed for sale. There are many good three-row SUV's that compete with the Pilot. There are no other vehicles like the Ridgeline.

Kind of.

The 2G Ridgeline has a wheelbase that is over a foot longer than a 2G/3G Pilot. So there is a difference in the body structure and a big difference in the ride quality. My 2021 BL rides so much nicer than the 2G Pilot we used to have.
Agree with dtrayers. I went from a CR-V to a Pilot to a Ridgeline. It may be due to the age, but the 2019 Black Edition Ridgeline is much quieter and drives much nicer than the 2012 Honda Pilot EX-L. IMO the Pilots are slightly cheaper than the Ridgeline counterparts, but as zroger73 mentioned it is due to supply and demand. Good luck on your future purchase!

There is a video on YouTube from May of 2016 by the “Honda Pro Jason” and Craig from Honda R & D where they go over the differences between the Ridgeline and Pilot. To quote Jason “it’s not a Pilot with a truck bed”. Honda re-engineered the front and rear suspensions and they display the components showing the differences. Craig said that they ended up charging 50% of the suspension components to create the Ridgeline. The video is pretty interesting.
