Hi Folks,
I have a Schumacher 1356, and I need another unit for another vehicle. I'm thinking of trying a NOCO Genius, and there are a few models. If anyone has insight into which one would be appropriate, I'd be grateful. I chatted with NOCO but they need the amp hours and recharge info from the battery (OEM) to make a recommendation.
Thanks all!

The old rule of thumb is 10% to 20% of your battery Ah (Amp-Hour). With a Ridgeline battery of 70 Ah... the old adage would say to have a maintainer close 7 to 10 amps. Today's smarter maintainers don’t really need to adhere to that as much as they are smart enough to not overcharge if they are oversized.. and they only charge slower at the less amperage. Of the NOCO units, you would be fine with a NOCO Genius5. But many would say a 10 would be the true, proper fit (myself, I would be fine with a 5). I think a Genius2 would be fine if all you were doing is steady hookups. But if you ever ran it dead, a 2amp would take quite awhile to recondition.

I chose the Genius10, mostly because it has twice the watts and charges twice as fast but it doesn't cost twice as much as the Genius5.
The Genius10 has 12v Supply and 6v AGM options, 2 features the Genius5 lacks. The Genius5 is likely sufficient for a Ridgeline and most vehicles but with the Genius10 I'm confident I won't need to upgrade my charger if I change to different vehicle in the future.
Which ever one you choose I highly recommend getting the matching NOCO case. They are very nice, have pockets, straps, a handle and are worth every penny.

I bought the Noco Genius5 and it works like a champ. I don't see the need for the 10. The 10 will charge faster than the 5, but I don't need the extra speed. I'm old and slow. Just make sure you set it for the type battery you have. My battery is AGM (not the regular Lead-Acid), so I set the maintainer on the AGM setting. It is 70 Ah. I paid $56 for it when it was on sale at Walmart.

I purchased a GOOLOO 3000A unit and actually prefer it to the previous NOCO Genius units I had before.

Good looking unit!

For my boost unit, I purchased the NOCO Boost X GBX45 1250A 12V UltraSafe Portable Lithium Jump Starter . I haven't used it yet and hope not to anytime soon.

I too think a NOCO genius 5 would be fine. But my experience with NOCO chargers has been mixed. I have had about 10 NOCO chargers over the years (and currently have 7.) Of the 10, I have experienced 4 failures that required replacement. The last two occurred within a year of purchase and I waiting on the replacements as I type this. The bad thing is that the replacements are only warrantied for the remaining time on the original units, in this case it’ll be about 2 years.

I’ve slowly started transitioning to CTEK chargers. The are very similar to NOCO units, and have loads of good reviews. They also carry a 5 year warranty as opposed to 3 years for NOCO.

Isn't that a jump box and not a maintenance charger ?

Genius 2 but I got the one with the battery rings before it was discontinued. Tucked in down by the battery and the plug sticking out the lower grill with a cap like a block heater.

I have both CTek and Noco Genius1 and 5 chargers. I bought a Ctek at a flea market years ago for $5 and asked the guy if it worked. He mumbled yeah the last time I used it. lol Well, it didn't work and turned out to be the button you press to turn it on. I bought some buttons at RS (when they were still open) and replaced the button inside and it's worked perfectly for the last however many years. I also have newer Ctek units and have not had any problems with them. I got a couple of Noco's last year due to Fdeno's success with them and they work good for a rejuvenation of batteries I've found. Maybe a little better than the Ctek units but it's hard to tell even with the testing of the batteries I've done long term. They both keep the sulfination at bay and I've not had to do anything extra when using either charger. Both just work as intended.
