Just pulled the wire harness apart. Same issue. All wires damaged but not yet cut (wrapped them in electrical tape individually to hopefully make them stay together longer)

White wire clean cut.

Red wire clean cut twice about 1.5” apart. I rewired together and everything now works!

Seems Honda has fixed absolutely nothing.

I use my tailgate just about everyday, sometimes multiple times per day, so I'll be keeping my eye on this. So far, no issues. fingers crossed
The first sign that I had a problem was my truck alarm would intermittently go off. Looking back on it, I now believe that is when the wires were probably starting to fail. Soon after is when I lost my camera.

So I almost had a deal done for my new ridgeline and got this Ina note from the dealer.

”stop sale because of the tailgate harness so I cant sell any ridgeline as of right now”

anybody know more? Is this a recall?

Just had my 2022 BE in for service 4 days ago, I had requested they check the bed cargo light becuase it wasn't coming on when I opened the gate. It would blink for a second then go out. They removed shims to help trigger the light but I think it's harness issue.

A few years back got one of those notifications regarding rusty half shafts on Accords. I called Honda and they were rude, incompetent and knew nothing. Turns out V6's were excluded from the recall. CarFax should not be sending these out until the dust settles. I'm pissed Honda hasn't fixed an issue that goes back to 2016. It's BS if anyone is denied a harness claim.

I remember a few years back I think Zroger posted a lengthy document that showed how Honda researched and tested the harnesses before the first recall. Sure looked like they did a thorough process but in the end I think it all came down to the zip tie so how much of a fix was it really? If it's the exact same failure now what gives? With the 17 RTS I had, occasionally the screen would go blank when in reverse. There were those that went completely blank and those that were blank but had grid lines. Of course, could never duplicate to be able to bring it to the dealer. This is what's so frustrating. We all know there is an issue but Honda is slow to respond and you can't even get a temp fix with an existing part replacement because it can't be duplicated. I always said that the wires in the harness flex when opening and closing the tailgate, similar to when you try to fold a credit card in half and it eventually separates. Maybe Honda should have some type of dual camera system with cameras in the tail lights or bumper or something.

I see this becoming an ugly saga as parts will be on back order forever. Hope that's not the case but it will be nice if the NHTSA give Honda a hard time so they fix it the right way instead of some band aid. If you mess with it yourself to fix do you void warranty? Maybe they'll give us loaners.

This is from Car Complaints going back to 2022, Honda fought this class action so maybe something is different now but when you look at this situation through a legal prism, getting our RL's fixed is probably not a top priority.

This is from Car Complaints this year, February, 2024

I just purchased a new 2024 Trailsport, fingers crossed 🤞 - what's the process like? Never had a vehicle recalled before 🤔
You wait until you get a recall notice in the mail and schedule an appointment with your dealer. It takes a while for the letters to be sent and they have to produce replacement parts. The Carfax notification says that there is no remedy right now but it's early and I'd wait to see what the real story is from Honda and how many vehicles actually will be addressed. They do the fix and hopefully it's fixed correctly and the dealer didn't screw up anything else. In the meantime you can check the NHTSA and Honda websites by plugging in your VIN. It will probably take Honda a few days to get the system updated on this. Not sure if Canada is similar.
