Hi all,

Looking into replacing my power steering pump when I do my timing belt but stumped on which brand to buy. Seems the safe answer is OEM but that's more than twice the amount of the Rock Auto options, and RA hasn't let me down yet lol.
Any recommendations of which to get? New or reman? They're around the same price.

And yes, I've changed both O-rings and the reservoir but same issue. Whining on turning and it becomes difficult to steer when the vehicle isn't moving.

Thanks!

You can look at BBB Industries or Cardone. You can search for same products on Amazon as I have found cheaper ones in other websites so RA is not your only source.
Either new or remanufactured is fine. Do you have any leaks from the rack itself?

Also, when you changed the O-rings, you are also talking about the seal that is on the back of the pump correct? not just the High pressure hose O-ring.

No leaks that I can tell or see. And yes, the O-rings for both the high pressure and low pressure lines. They were orange and black if I remember correctly.

okay thats what I figured. Before you go and invest in a whole new pump, do this.
1. Get a power steering pump seal kit like this one
2. Take the pump back cover off and replace that funny looking seal.
2.a (optional). You can replace all the seals if you want at this time - totally up to you.
3. Reinstall it and see if the power-steering performance changes.

I had whining from my power steering a while back and it happened to be a failed rear seal on the pump. I replaced it and things went back to being better.

I've never heard of these seals, thanks so much for mentioning them! I'll take a look and replace them since the seals are so cheap. Might save me a few hundred dollars here so I appreciate it!

If you are still considering replacing the pump, I have had phenomenal results with the NAPA rebuilt ones.

Used them on many vehicles without any problems at all... To include my 4runner, which has been running the NAPA rebuilt pump since 2006.

I was always told that when you replace the PS pump your should replace the high pressure line and PS fluid reservoir at a minimum.
