Hi All - I am looking for a hood protector for the underside of my Ridgeline's hood. Basically it is a sheet of plastic that is crafted and mounted to the underside of the hood. Any help is appreciated!

It protects fluids from binding or sticking to the underside of the hood. At least that is what I think it does. My 93 Honda Accord had it and in retrospect it may have been to surpress noise....Have you seen something like this for the Ridgeline?

How about duct taping cardboard, or better yet foil under it. Why would you need to protect the underside of the hood? Do you leave fluid caps off?

LOL - No I don't leave my fluid caps off. Have you checked the underside of your hood? Some fluid does get up there. I will try to post pics tomorrow showing what I mean.

I would think that if you had fluid on the under side of the hood, the last thing you would worry about is the finish of the paint on the under side.

I would think you might be talking about the hood insulator also.
Was this a black like stuff moulded underneath shaped like the hood.
I had a 90 Accord LX but can't remember the underneath of that hood.
I purchased it new in Feb 90 & traded it for a 94 Accord EX when they first hit the dealership in 93. I know the 89 Buick we had in the family had this stuff. My 00 Acura TL has it also so what you guys are saying is the Ridgeline does not have it. Its just a solid metal hood underneath, I don't spend enough time under it to remember. The Buick also had a light under the hood that Honda never had.

Yes! That's exactly what I'm talking about! Can you take a pic to show ppl what I'm referring to?

Jadedsoulx, I have seen the hood insulators on cars for years, but you asked if they made one for RLs to absorb fluids flung up on your hood. That is not what they were for. They were mainly for engine noise.

Ahh! I took a closer look at the underside of my hood today. It is not fluid that's on there. It's dirt. Basically what I want is something to protect the paint on the underside of the hood. I guess the insulator would work. Is there even an insulator for the Ridgeline? Am I the only one worried about why the underside of the hood gets dirty?:(

Purchase some spray on or paint on bed liner....

....or easier..... Just wash it and wax it. Leave the wax on, don't buff it off. (This is what I do).

Good Idea xridgelinex. I have seen the clear sheets of sticky stuff meant to protect the front of vehicles, but I don't know if it would melt if you put it under the hood.

AFAIK the pad you are talking about is a heat insulator for engines with the hot valves running centimeters or less from the hood, not a sound deadener. The bottom of the engine bay is open anyways, and there'd be little reason to deaden the sound trough the hood to the outside world. If that was the case youd see the lining on the firewall where noise is entering the cabin. Without them smaller cars with the hood that close to one of the hotter parts of the motor would absorb too much heat, and the probably leading to premature paint wear and an increased risk of burns.

The ridgeline has a fair amount of space above the motor and also has a plastic cover so one of these heat pads would be dead weight.

If you get oil or fluids on the underside of the hood, someone isnt being careful with oil changes or you've sprung a leak. My point is adding some mat for protection is just hiding something that shouldnt be happening. I've owned plent of cars that have gone over 200,000 miles with little or no fluids on the top. But all it takes is one oil spill and of course that pad acts like a magical sponge and with the heat the oil bakes in there. Just use a rag around the filler neck or if you go to an express lube just go to a gas station immediately and wipe everything down.

The 'pad' you are referring to is in fact a heat resistant material. As I understand it, this material is designed to drop onto the engine in the event of a fire and slow fire growth.

JadedSoulX, I just bought my RL in March and was also was curious why no under hood insulation. All my previous cars, even a cheap Plymouth, have had it. Like the one poster I believe it's good for fire retention. I'd rather add a little weight than have to have the hood repainted some day. I have some body shops close by and I'll stop in and ask about getting the material. I believe it's held in place by glue but I'll check. I'll let you know what I find out.
