I have a 2007 honda ridgeline. I have no problems until today. When I put it in reverse and start backing up I'm hearing a loud swilling noise coming from the backend. Can anyone give me an idea what it is. I drive 120 mile back and to work. I don't want to cause any more damage then is already there.
Thanks

More info needed. How many miles on the truck? Any work done to it lately?
Can/did you check brakes? Was the parking brake in use before the noise happened? Is the noise only in reverse?
Thank you for replying.

I currently have 68k on the truck. I have had no work done lately. I just have had it serviced like I normally do. I have not had the breaks checked. The last time they were check every thing was ok. It only happens in reverse. The parking break was not not in use when I was backing up.

I am willing to bet you and pretty penny that your inside rear brake pads are worn out. I was getting the very same noise and I had to replace my rear brake pads.

With that mileage, if you've never had brake pads replaced or not replaced in a while, I would guess that's the problem.

I had a noise like this as well. It only occured when backing up for the most part. It would do it occasonally while going very slowly forward and the steering wheel was rocked back and forth to get the vehicle wiggling.

It isn't the pads as they are fine. The dealer finally figured it out. There is a splash guard of some kind that is near the rotor and it can be bent easily towards the rotor. After they adjusted it, the sound has vanished. Mine started after I backed up over some brush/rough terrain to make way for another vehicle on a one lane mountain road.

ughh! I too am hearing this noise *ONLY* in reverse.

any updates before I take it to the stealership?

All of the appropriate suggestions were made at the beginning of this thread (Check your rear brake pads for wear).
