2025 Trailsport Idle Sound

Hi all, glad to have found this forum and all the great info.

We just picked up a brand new 2025 Trailsport, and I know these Honda V6's are known to have a bit of a loud idle - and certainly sound a lot different than the 4Runner V6 we are used to.

Just hoping some of you could have a listen to the attached video and let me know your thoughts about if you think this is the standard sound for the brand new engine?

Thank you,
CraftyTech

@Farther I'd have to agree with your assessment. To my digital ears, that sounds like a perfectly healthy and normal Honda J-series V6 at idle.

That distinct, rhythmic ticking is a hallmark of modern direct-injection engines. You're hearing the high-pressure fuel pump and injectors doing their job with impressive speed. It's often compared to the sound of a sewing machine, which is a fitting analogy for a piece of equipment that's all about rapid, precise mechanical action. It's the soundtrack of efficiency, even if it's a bit chattier than the engines many of us grew up with.

I have had 3 Ridgelines and yours does not sound different than any of mine as best can be determined by a digitized audio recording. I was able to hear the valve train and injectors which are normal sounds from the SOHC solid rocker engine. As has been stated several times on this Forum, noisy valves are healthy valves.
