"I feel your pain....I did this for two months, Aug. and Sept....then purchased the peragon cover and am glad I did....now I just sit back and watch you guys fretting over which one to purchase....love my peragon cover!!!! Looks fantastic, works well and keeps everything dry in the back. Just an FYI"

I agree with ronjuan--bought the Retrax month's ago--safe sound and Dry--cannister very small no problem

All true and i considered all of this.
I am still torn on my choice.
A lot of us are. Why is this decision such a tough one? I don't get it. Maybe because we've had to wait so long. It gives you way too much time to think about it.

Even seen where people have complained about the Retrax Pro and how it begins to wear at the seams and start leaking badly.

For a 1500+ investment i only want to buy a cover ONCE!

I suppose any retractable cover is susceptible to wear and tear of the way its hinged together, right?
Even the retractable manufacturers will tell you that their type of tonneau is more likely to leak than others. Both Retrax and Peragon have said that to me. There are things you can do to minimize that leakage. And it starts by understanding where they tend to leak. The most common places are right where those two slots are on either side of the front of our truck. That's why those four slots need to be plugged up. The butyl/putty tape has been working fabulously for me and it's not permanent so you can take it out whenever you want to. For specifics:

I did officially cancel my Peragon order. I'm waiting for them to credit me back. True to form, Peragon was great about the cancellation. They wanted to know why, which I actually admired. Most companies don't ask you that question. But they didn't ask it in the gatekeeper sort of way. They said they'd be happy to cancel my order but just wondered why. It's market research. Anyway, that's done. I'm in no hurry to order another one just yet. I already have the Honda tonneau, limited though it is, so that really leaves only the Extang Solid Fold for me — unless I wait until June. I can't think about this stuff anymore it's driving me crazy!

Funny, as of about 10 minutes ago the Solid Fold was where i was leaning heavily. Its good looking with minimal Macgyvering to the RL.

How easy is it to remove? Thats the BIG selling point of the Paragon. Wonder how quickly removable (or easily) it is to remove.

Well, back to google. Getting NO work done today...gotta decide on a cover! Once the cover decision is made then i can get back to doing my job....thats how i look at it :)

Why did you choose the Solid Fold over the EXtang Encore?

Sorry for blowing this thread up...but new information has come to light, man!

So just got off the phone with Extang to ask about difference

Encore is a Rail system that has to be added to the truck.
Solid Fold sits on top and is held down with brackets.

Encore is a tad easier to remove in a hurry due to the quick release system of the rail.
Solid Fold will just require folding and unscrewing of two clamps (little slower but not hard at all).

Encore due to being a railed system sits flush. This requires it to use drain tubes.
Solid Fold sits on top. Uses seals to keep out water, no drain system.

So, if i had to buy today it would be the Solid Fold!

Hopefully this info helps other newbies as they come along this monster thread.

Re: Aftermarket tonneau covers: Honda brackets caution

Maybe its just me...and i dont wish to offend anyone who is owns this cover...but it looks, to my eyes, like an afterthought. Its just sitting up there on top like an extra slice of bread.
The Retrax and its ilk look, to my eyes, more refined and dare i say a natural addition to the bed.
It doesn't look that bad. Actually, my first choice was a Roll-N-Lock because it locks the tonneau and tailgate. But since the truck is leased, I didn't want to drill holes for drain tubes (which I know now I could have gotten around) and I didn't want to put self tapping screws in the tailgate. Could have gotten it locally for $1200 plus $120 for installation.

I don't remember the Roll-N-Lock being mentioned previously in this thread. I had one on my 2007 RL for over nine years and it was working great when I traded it in. There was a small amount of leakage in the two front corners when going thru the car wash and during downpours. It has, I believe, the smallest canister at 7 1/2 inches.

Something for people considering a roll top tonneau to check out.

It's all in, pretty simple actually. Seems decent quality, feels like O.E. Repeatedly opening and closing could be a PITA. Opening the gate will be the way to go. We'll see how it works out going forward.
14v6,
If you get a chance this weekend take it to a car wash and let us know if it keeps water out, please sir.

10 posts ago i commented on how it looked, and now i am thinking about buying it.

i went back to his pictures and there is one where the angle made it look odd to me. Seeing an hours worth of videos and pictures in the web has changed my mind.

The ONLY reservation i have about it are these two things
1. How water resistant is it?
2. No Locks? So i'd have a Truck and Tonneau that both dont lock! Ugh!

Like to see how it handles a down pour. Here in memphis in the spring, when it rains it plays for keeps!

I'm thinking of putting the original tie down brackets on the tailgate end over the mounting brackets for the tonneau, essentially doubling up the bracket. Anyone have a reason why this wouldn't be a good idea?
Several of us have it this way. The bolts are plenty long enough.

I also let Kevin and Christie know about the hole alignment problem on the brackets for the covers. I actually directed them to post #1311 (Thanks for the pictures man!). They are going to make adjustments to that as well. I will say this....even after all of this headache, they are super responsive to address any and all problems.

Oh, and they sent me tracking info. My parts WILL be here tomorrow!

I don't do car washes but if I can get the hose to work (currently a lot of snow on the ground) i'll give it a try. Just to let you know, the President's day sale that Bernardi matched ends on the 20th. Like I said earlier, in the brochure, Honda says it is not a weatherproof cover. That video that you posted was very disappointing with the water coming through the hinges. I never thought that was a possibility. I had some backer rod in the gaps by the window but will probably loosen up the cover and put some camper tape, rope caulk or weather strip on the vulnerable corner by the rear cab window. I'll also try to see how much light comes through the gaps. I must say though that I like when looking in the rear view mirror to see that cover over the bed now. It looks finished to me.

The choice between the Solid Fold 2.0 and the Honda tonneau is really a tossup. Assuming that you're leaving the rail on the Extang, for example, both of them are very easy to remove the cover from. Once you get it down and are practiced at it, it's about a 10 minute enterprise. There are no bolts or tools required. There are no extra parts to keep track of. Everything is attached to the tonneau. You remove the two quick clamps at the back, fold the cover up, unscrew the two front clamps with the hand screws, attach the two tethered clips to keep it in the folded position and then remove the cover. This last part is the hardest part because it weighs 50 pounds and is bulky. But I do it alone frequently. With two people it's a breeze. Putting it back on his nearly as easy. Put it back at the front of the the bed and line it up so it's centered on the bed caps. Then unfold the tonneau gently so as not to disturb its positioning and make adjustments to center it fore and aft and side to side, checking all four corners. Then fold up the tonneau gently again so as not to disturb the placement. People of average height or taller can stand on the ground next to the cover and reach over and in to the bed and attach the clamp to the rail or bracket then use their hands. Tighten it up three quarters of the way and then go and do the other side. Tighten the second side all the way then go back and tighten the first side all the way. The clamps are made of plastic so don't tighten it with all your strength.

With the Honda tonneau, you get some question marks about the provenance of the tonneau and whether it might leak water because that's the reputation. In the Extang Solid Fold 2.0 for the 2G Ridgeline, there's an accessory rail system that runs from the front tiedown to the back tiedown on both sides. If you really hate the rails, it's possible but not definite that they can be removed and safely replaced with brackets that are purchasable from Honda for the Honda tonneau. Those are really the main differences. If you don't mind the thought of the slim rail that the trunk lid can open inside of, my advice is to get the Solid Fold 2.0. I would err on the side of the Extang product over the Honda product. I would characterize that as a slight preference for the Extang product over the Honda product. You might consider my negative personal experience with the Honda tonneau in how you interpret that advice.

I agree about the looks of both the Honda tonneau and the Extang Solid Fold 2.0 because they are basically identical looking on the outside. They look good. They're not low-profile tonneaus. I think you and I agree that the advantage of maximizing the cargo space by placing the tonneau on top of the bed caps as opposed to between them outweighs the advantage of good looks. But I don't think these look bad. I've gotten compliments on the Honda tonneau.

Really recommend the butyl to seal those seams in the front corners of the bed caps. I tried all sorts of foam strips and things. Nothing works like the butyl/putty tape does and it's not expensive.

Wow! I gotta admit, I'm a bit bummed. You seem to be well-versed in this area and I was hoping to get your opinion on the Peragon in person versus all the on-line perceptions.

Bummer...

Sorry, man. I bought it impulsively. That sounds a little ridiculous after the months we've spent talking about this, but when it was reported to us that the Solid Fold suddenly required rails that would only allow the trunk lid open 80% I just flipped out. I figured if I was going to have rails I was going to do it in style. But I was having serious buyers remorse about having good deal with the rails when I take the cover off the truck. I do that about 8 times a year and for several months straight during the summer. The Peragon just doesn't match the way I use a tonneau cover. There's nothing at all wrong with the it. I was looking forward to installing it and playing with it. But it became clear to me a couple of days ago that I'd made a mistake.

Dzod9 it was just confirmed here (check the last couple screens in this thread) that the rails do not interfere with the opening of the trunk.

Paul
The confusion stems from an initial report we got from an online retailer of tonneaus who heard from Extang that it had rails and that they limited the opening to 80%. We began to question that information given images that we saw of the rails, which is also used in the BAKflips. And it turns out that was right. ChuckP58 was the first to get the Solid Fold 2 for the 2G Ridgeline and he tested it and realized that what we heard about the Solid Fold's rails blocking the trunk lid was wrong. Finally, ChuckP58 and I did some measuring of the Honda tonneau and the new Solid Fold for the Ridgeline and it seems likely that, if you really didn't want to use the Solid Fold's rails, you could purchase the brackets for the Honda tonneau, which Honda sells separately for about $70, and use them to anchor the Extang Solid Fold 2.0.

@phineas, would you have any care recommendations for the O.E. cover. Does it need to be sprayed with something for protection against the sun? Also, as a side topic and possibly another thread do you protect all the plastic trim pieces on the RL with something to avoid them getting faded? If you use something I would you researched it well.
