🥳 UPDATE 🥳 This beauty was picked up on 6/2 from CRISWELL HONDA in GERMANTOWN, MD with 3 miles on the odometer. The wife and I couldn't be happier with the RADIANT RED - we personally like it even more than PPM or MSM now that it is finally here in our driveway. Depending on the sun/lighting, the color changes from a brighter red to orange-red to candy apple to maroon at night - I LOVE IT 👍 I cannot wait to see it after it gets ceramic coated from head to toe

Criswell had a RTL in transit, so we called John Hicks 👍 last friday 5/28 and secured it right away - 4 days later I drove the cleanest, most immaculate new vehicle off the lot of my life. 😁

So in an ironic twist, I suppose I should thank ANTRIM WAY HONDA in GREENCASTLE, PA for being a small-town keystone cops cracker jack operation in every way imaginable - sales, customer service, transparency, communication, and honestly - they have been an ABJECT FAILURE. 👎👎👎👎👎

FYI I made an offer to ANTRIM WAY to pay full MSRP for an RTL or RTL-E (and give up the $3K under MSRP discount we agreed to on 2/16) - and this was Chad the GSM's response:
At this point it is very apparent to us that no matter what we do you will not be pleased purchasing a vehicle from us. You will continue to hold us hostage for a situation that we have not created. We did not cause a parts shortage or reduction in production. We also did not cause you to sell one of your vehicles that has now put you in a bind.

We will be refunding your deposit and allow you to pursue other avenues (has you have already done) to acquire a Ridgeline.
So to summarize, I offer ANTRIM WAY full MSRP on ANY RTL or RTL-E color combo...and their response is to attack me the paying customer, refund my deposit, and tell me to go elsewhere?? How does a company stay in business treating their customers like this? Crazy times. But honestly after everything they put my wife and I through over the past 4+ months (and would have been going through for another 4+ months no doubt), I was never really going to pay ANTRIM WAY full MSRP. There literally wasn't a chance in the world even IF a truck showed up there loaded with RL's. It was NEVER about the money for us. We paid full MSRP at CRISWELL and are very happy with our decision to purchase there. 😁

I like the way you describe the color changes - "Depending on the sun/lighting, the color changes from a brighter red to orange-red to candy apple to maroon at night - I LOVE IT 👍 I cannot wait to see it after it gets ceramic coated from head to toe." In direct sunlight it is beautiful.

To be frank, Antrim Honda made the right decision in not selling you a truck.
Refunding your deposit and getting rid of you was a smart business decision.
It would have cost them more in time/resources/bonus money lost to your negative Honda survey than they would have made on the truck.

They were 100% correct in their assumption that "no matter what we do you will not be pleased purchasing a vehicle from us."
Anyone would come to this conclusion after reading your correspondence on page #3.
You even acknowledge that your offer to pay full MSRP was a lie.

Again, "I don't always defend dealers, but when I do..."

I have received similar replies. Dealers don't have time to waste on those of us who try to "steal" vehicles from them - there are plenty of other buyers who will pay over MSRP (through creative math - even though they may not realize it). Once a shopper becomes tagged as a "tight wad", don't expect anything else from that dealer...UNLESS it's closing time on the last day of the month AND they NEED to sell one more vehicle to make a bonus then they'll bend over backwards.

Telling shoppers like you to hit the road represents absolutely no loss whatsoever to the dealer like you and I'm not saying that to be ugly - I'm the same way. Dealers don't like me, either. :)

I'm with you @CGK, a deal is a deal. Look at Sparkland for example, his deal was honored and his position in the queue was maintained. Some businesses do the right thing while for others it's the bottom line. Imagine if this was a house being built. Here, the reputable builders will honor the price even if it's at a loss to them while other builders will try to get out of the deal. The same can be said about buyers too. So in the end it comes down to ethics. I love how dealers all bring up the chip shortage but don't say a word about how profit per unit on average went from $1,500 ish to $3,000 ish. With that said I just assume the worst in people so take the sure thing and sell the used car now and if there is no new inventory I'd expect the worst and assume an agreed upon deal is just talk. Younger folks don't seem to have much of an issue with this sometimes you win sometimes you lose. To me a name and a reputation counts for a lot but it's a world of snakes now.

Only time till tell if it was a smart business decision for them. If I was a betting man my money would say no it was not. Have you ever heard of the saying that 1 bad customer experience is worse than 10 good ones? Maybe you're too young to get it - but I'm not...oh well to each his own.

And to clarify one point for you "@bluegrass" chad or whomever you are - I did pay full MSRP to CRISWELL without blinking an eye. I've been shopping other dealers for a couple weeks. I emailed ANTRIM with my full MSRP offer WHILE SITTING IN MY NEW RL in my driveway - and the response I got was just as expected - I guess I was right and good thing otherwise I would still be waiting until at least August and continually getting ANTRIM's weekly "your build has been delayed" email. Bottom line is ANTRIM WAY is now a J-O-K-E mom and pop dealership - me pay them MSRP?? 😂 LMAO I wouldn't give them the time of day!

The manufacturer/dealer/consumer system is broken and has been for a long time. There is no good reason that 2 people can purchase exactly the same vehicle and one pay 10% more than another because the sales manager likes one more. Dealers are protected by franchise laws and there is nothing manufacturers can do to get rid of the bad apples. There are no "good" dealers. They are all leaches and add no value to the market.

You were/are a difficult customer. You put yourself in a bad situation and hopefully learned something. I'd buy from Antrim tomorrow if the price was right...and they know it!

You have a strong fixation with Antrim Way Honda. Some might even call it an unhealthy obsession.
For whatever reason, you got yourself way too invested in the process and stopped looking at things rationally/logically.
It was a lose-lose proposition for the dealership, and they were correct in saying..."no matter what we do you will not be pleased purchasing a vehicle from us."

My point about MSRP was in relation to your comments...
"FYI I made an offer to ANTRIM WAY to pay full MSRP for an RTL or RTL-E.

I'm just saying that you were pulling the same crap with Antrim that you are upset with them about.

About an hour and a half from me, there is a small bakery that I'd never heard of. Yesterday, a person who had a pending order for five dozen cookies sent the bakery a hateful message and cancelled their order after seeing an advertisement for a themed cookie on the baker's Facebook page that offended them. News of this complaint went locally viral. The actions of the person who canceled their order ultimately had an effect that was likely the opposite of what they were trying to accomplish - dozens of people from miles away who had never even heard of this bakery suddenly began placing orders to be donated locally.

THIS sounds familiar

I'm guessing THIS is your story - but to be honest the comparison is apples to oranges - I couldn't have cared less what AWH's position was on anything political - I just expected honesty, transparency, communication, and most importantly just KEEPING TO THEIR WORD. 😉

Yep - that's the story.

Honesty, transparency, communication, and keeping their word are not characteristics normally associated with automobile dealers - those qualities don't pay their overhead costs. I wish that wasn't the case, but that's how it's been for decades and won't change unless laws change allowing automakers to sell direct to customers and bypass dealers. If that ever happens, you'll pay fixed, non-negotiable prices just like you do at your barber, grocer, electronics retailer, etc. then people will start complaining about that.

Life is too short. I suggest trying to forget about AWH and moving on with your life.

As zroger points out, car dealerships have NEVER been a bastion of "honesty, transparency and communication."

You should put care sales on par with the timeshare industry, payday loans, whole life insurance, and members of Congress.
