No fix. But I think it happens the more you use overlapping apps. For example, if you have WAZE (which has always been the buggiest on my phone) ... and you switch to Apple maps while WAZE runs in the background. I can almost repeat this in a certain area with WAZE running and I "think" it's when there is a specific city/county boundary in WAZE that does it to mine.

You have good info; I never knew the MULTI APP mode was more stable. I slowly weened myself from WAZE and since I haven't used it, the screen hasn't giving me as much grief.

Of course, there is the obnoxious tip everyone (and I) suggests, make sure you rule out the cable by using your given Apple Cable for testing. They are not all created equal, and the rated spec of cheapy cable may be subpar.

 

Per MacRumors Forums, Google Maps has been problematic on CarPlay for some time.
On iOS17.3, it barely worked for many. I'm on iOS17.4b1, and Google Maps, Waze, and Apple Maps (except for NO contrast) are working in split screen and full screen modes, so there's some hope.

 

I've had GMaps freeze on my head unit for quite some time & on several iterations of iOS (16.x & up).
Gave up - only use Apple maps now.

I only get this when using wired connection to Carplay and not just on my Ridgeline, I added a wireless airplay USB device to my car and this doesn't happen anymore.

 

At times, Waze for me will get a bit pixilated, or just freeze. Oddly, it’ll still announce alerts, even with the map frozen. I find hitting the home button, then going back to CarPlay remedies the issue.

 

There might be a common theme through all of this if we collaborate. It seems maybe Google Apps (e.g WAZE or Google maps). I wonder....

 

I just noticed today that I can ask "Siri" to find a location, and she will route me to it while driving if I am using Apple maps, but she gives me a "cannot perform this function while the vehicle is moving" warning, if I try it with Google maps. I am using the wireless Apple Carplay dongle in both instances.
