True but I think it’s low risk that an update would or could disable it. The head unit talks to the device as a wired CarPlay - Honda to the carPlay2air. That portion won’t break and is isolated from apple updates.

The CarPlay2air emulates a wireless CarPlay head into - like any aftermarket head unit that is officially licenses/approved/whatever. Head units won’t likely get firmware updated, certainly not frequently as likely not at apples request to change anything in the way that communications occur.

So if that’s true it should work until Apple makes some decision to change something in iOS or the phone hardware that would obsolete not only this hack adapter but also may aftermarket (and likely factory) wireless head units.

It’s similar to AirPlay - that standard was hacked years ago and this same warning applied however years later, AirPlay 1 hacks still function fine.

I agree that at some point Apple may offer a real version of this - I’d buy that quickly if they did. Until then this one works really well for me. I came from over a year of wireless CarPlay with an Alpine head unit (first to offer one) so this feature was really important to me - if I hadn’t had that I may not have bought this.

I own two now - another one that my wife uses in her Volvo - loves it.

Run CarPlay without plugging in. $160 with good reviews on their website.

BEWARE! They do not post reviews with less than 4 stars. I know because I left a 2 star review.
Playing music is the only thing that seems to work "OK". Try and use Waze or any other Map (Navigation) app and it crashes on a regular basis. You need to go back to Home screen and select CarPlay to get it back. Super frustrating!

Also, you can send it back, BUT you pay to ship it back to China! And you may have to pay $25 restocking fee on top of that.

I’ve been back and forth with cplay2air support and still can’t connect. When I plug it in, the car (2019 Accord Hybrid Touring) asks if I want to enable CarPlay for the device. I click yes and then nothing else ever happens. I’m not connected to any other BT device. Any ideas?

So plug it in. The open your phones Bluetooth and pair there first. I believe the car2airplay will need to be started after the pairing.

I don’t see any new available BT devices on my phone. How is the cplay2air identified in the phone’s Bluetooth?
Just ran across this site - haven’t watched it yet but this may help you.

I'm done with this device. It only connects about half the time, and making phone calls is useless as there is a significant delay with voice. You end up constantly talking over the other person. I have been back and forth with tech support, they keep telling me to do the same thing over and over which doesn't resolve the issue at all. I'd rather get 3/4 of my money back than have a device that I can't use. Buyer beware, don't waste your money on this product.

Dang, I finally just ordered one.
I have had few issues - I still enjoy.

As jetspeed noted, actual voice calls can be an issue - since the head unit talks to the device, then the device talks to the phone there is a delay introduced and the conversation is no longer full duplex either so the other party doesn’t realize they are being talked over u til they stop.

I make few voice calls so for me it isn’t an issue. If I get a call that is important enough or I think will last a considerable length of time I take the call and simply pull the usb plug from the device. My calls flips over to direct Bluetooth to the head unit with no issues.

Just now ordered. Will update back when I receive it.

Read positive things about it on a Jeep forum last month.

Have a 19 RTLE but had wireless CarPlay in my Tacoma for a year via an Alpine head unit. Wireless is the only way to go.

Did it work in the Ridgeline? I looked the website and it isn’t listed as one of the approved Honda products.

I got one for my Ridgeline and it works as well as I think it does on any other car. Which is not to say that it’s perfect. Sometimes it doesn’t connect, but that’s not a big bother. More annoying is that sometimes it insists on playing every song twice. And I don’t know if it’s related or not, but now every time I get in the car with CarPlay unplugged, the console says “device not connected” and I have to hit the home button to get back to the main menu to play the radio or see maps.

After hearing that some people had success with CARPLAY2air I ordered one. It worked okay, but not without problems. I was generally satisfied. They encouraged me to update the firmware, which I did two days ago. Now I can't use it at all. It crashes and freezes. I wrote to customer service, and they said:

"As you can see, the Honda Ridgeline is not yet supported!
We clearly stated it on our website that it only supports CR-V, Civic, HR-V, Clarity only."

So, if you already have one, you might not want to update the firmware.

That's interesting, when I purchased it the website said any Honda with CarPlay from the factory. That's BS they have now changed it. Now I'm stuck with $160 piece a plastic.

Update on May 29. I corresponded with CARPLAY2air several times about my problems, and they told me to update the firmware. After doing that, the device has become essentially unusable. When told this, they told me it is NOT compatible with the Ridgeline. So, if you have one, you may not want to update it. And if yours works, maybe you're just lucky.
