Readers; For my dog, I put a slice of plywood, with two legs, on the back seat. Then covered the plywood with a large moving blanket. Seems to work well, the dog cannot fall on the floor, and its tall enough for the not tall dog to see out the windows.

Give him a beanbag.

A bean bag is the worst thing for a dog, IMHO. With my construction of a dog platform, the dog is able to 'brace' into a turn or a stop. much as do motorcycle riders. With a bean bag,there is nothing for the dogs 'instinct ' to do with it, thus making the dog insecure. This dog of mine is 16yrs old, and not doing well for waking or balance. In the R/L she stands for an entire trip, and looks at the world going by. In my GMC, I had a similar dog platform, built on the floor. She could see out the window with the GMC. But with the R/L she takes more notice of things and seems to enjoy the ride better.

Interesting. My dog loved it, wouldn't sit anywhere else in the vehicle. Put him at the right height to lay down and look out the windows, and settled in just enough to not lose balance in the turns.

Also, he wore a halter that clipped to the seat belt. Our current dog does the same. I guess YMMV.
