My wife surprised me last Christmas with a 4-wheel drive Mammotion "perimeter wire free" robotic mower. I haven't had it out of the box yet, but supposedly it's designed for steep, uneven terrain. I have a 3/4 acre lot.

Does your wife have a single sister? :)

Is anyone going to watch the reveal of the Slate EV tomorrow? Jeff Bezos is an investor in the company!

Tesla's sales were down 13% compared to Q1 2024, most of that was due to the new Model Y changeover. Some may have been due to brand sentiment.
  • Sales Decline:
Tesla delivered 336,681 vehicles in the first quarter of 2025, a 13% decrease from the 390,000 vehicles delivered in the first quarter of 2024.

  • Profit Drop:
    The company's net income
also plummeted, with a 71% drop compared to the same quarter in 2024.

I suspect Slate Auto will join other failed EV startups such as Fisker, Nikola, Canoo, and Lordstown Motors.

I like the idea of an inexpensive, customizable, no-frills vehicle with an open bed, but I'm being realistic about the market for it.

It might appeal to some of the very small number of people who import Honda Actys.

Ford Maverick all over again but this time from a no name manufacturer? I'd love to see something like this take off and keep the price at 27k.
Sub-$20k if EV rebates are intact.

Honestly, I'd trust the reliability of this Slate over the Maverick. So much less to go wrong with it.

I think it would see strong implementation in fleet sales where the vehicles are used around the town/city. Fleet managers love no frills, and wraps with company logos will be relatively cheap.

I do like the idea of building your own via accessories. The vehicle design and body lines are very classic and will age gracefully. If these become mainstream, i could see many examples of these still being on the road 30-40 years from now.

I think ICE and gas cars have increased enough and we see 20k ev’s so let them do it alone. Since the power source is subsidized for ICE perhaps EV should get some relief there. If it’s not feasible then so be it until the cost can come down. I mean it has no fuel, engine or exhaust to deal with. Makes me wonder how hybrids do it since they have all the ICE and EV components.

I'm guessing the Slate will be available via Amazon delivery. No ridiculous dealership antics and no ADM that plagued the Maverick to no end. At least that should make @zroger73 happy. :)

I've not seen any mention of the Exro system in reviews this far. If it proves viable, it could be as big of a gamechanger as the Slate business model.

It sounds like big golf cart, truck. No crazy electronics, no stereo, no power windows .. just CarPlay, that's it. Short range 150 miles... 240 extended, which probably means all the space goes away... Plain Jane and modular. Only two-seater, right? I see that being a boon for:
  • Small business work vehicles
  • Maybe some farm errands
  • Hobbyists and modders
  • Uber eats, and other delivery types
The one thing out of this I think is perfectly right, is starting with basics and growing, instead of starting with luxury and burning company funds to come down to affordable level after several years. If it is true that it is 20k-25k... I will consider getting on a wait list if I have a garage by then to tinker. It really sounds like a platform that supports a large Hacker/Mod/Aftermarket tinker crowd.

Picking up the Model 3 today around noon. Felt bad emptying out my Ridgeline.. she's been a great truck, always done what was asked...the ridgeline was a dream of mine for a long time, so it's bittersweet to be turning her in today.... the problem was/is I just couldn't see buying out the lease for 30k (at the moment thanks to the market I just don't have it and would have had to borrow $) or buying/leasing any other car with the same features.. suv/truck/sedan.. it didn't matter, they all wanted 4k down and 500+ a month. Picked this Model 3 up under the 299/month 1000 down deal.. about 5k a year cost to own, which is what the ridgeline cost and slightly more than the accord before the ridgeline.. either way I tried out several different makes and models.

In the end the sales people killed the deal each and every-time.. they just wanted too much, made it too much of a hassle, and when the tesla ordering process was not only cheaper than what they all wanted, but all I had to do was click a few buttons and decide if I was okay with the price, that pushed it over.

Also, during the order process someone from tesla reached out via text to assist and tell me they needed something else.. it was darn refreshing to do the deal on MY time and not be pushed to do anything I didn't want to do. Keeping everything in the APP and everything via text/email is amazingly great vs "come to the dealer" "What number can I call you at?"

Regular car dealerships really need to get on the wagon about giving numbers out via text/email and stop the high pressure get you into the dealership bs.

Is it safe to assume then that you don't need a vehicle with an open bed? I have not missed having a Ridgeline at all since selling it after buying a Model Y a couple of years ago. I like the refreshed Model 3, but I do need a trailer hitch for a bike rack and utility trailer and I also take naps in my vehicle, so the Model Y works for me.

yeah, I dont "need" it for sure. I ended up using it a a trunk most of the time. Firesale coming on some 2nd ridgeline stuff.

Congratulations, @RTLZ. Are those numbers for a lease or purchase? You will like the Model 3.
