Fuel pump recall - now gauge bad

Had the fuel pump recall service done. Pump replaced. First fill up after that and the gauge did not register being full. I took it to another gas station and topped it off again just to make sure it was full.
When I first filled, the gauge was showing less than 1/4 tank. I drove about 50 miles and in that time the low gas light comes on. Can see the gauge is dropping. Then took to top off the tank again and was only able to get 3 gallons in.
So did they not hook up a wire to the gauge or something? Is the pump and gauge all one unit? Who knows how this works?

When my pump was changed, the Honda mechanic installed the o ring incorrectly. It worked well for 6000 mile but the on a trip thru Nebraska it went into limp mode. Had to be towed 83 miles to a small dealer on a Friday afternoon. Luckily their master mechanic had this issue on a crv and knew where to go. Sure enough the o-ring had split not allowing pressure to pump fuel. Once again the mechanic came thru, showed me the split o-ring and I was on my way 4 hours later. Nothing but great people out in the farmlands.
