How to determine Key Number?

I think I may have thrown out my Key Number Tag thinking it was a dealer stock tag.

Is there any way to find the Key Number by opening the key or by any other means, like through the instrument panel?

I do have the protection plan that covers key replacement so it won't affect me monetarily, but, still, I think I done goofed.

What does the Key Number Tag look like? Can one of you post a picture of one so I know if what I threw out was the real thing.

Mine also is the same except it is a K and 3 digits.
The dealer has written something on the other side. It would be easy to toss it out.

My sister had an older Honda and she lost the keys. A friend at a Honda dealer made her a key from the VIN and the title. All he needed was the VIN, but the title proved ownership.

There is no way the "end user" can determine your key code. Honda's high security key codes run from H001 to N718. Depending on how comfortable you are with PMing me a picture of your cut key I can read the cuts and tell you what your code is. While I am not a locksmith by trade, I run a warehouse that supplies the machines that locksmiths and the dealers use for cutting keys, and in turn have to do technical support on these machines so I am well versed in reading depths on keys.

Made that mistake once. Now I scan and safe everything after a car purchase, so at least there is a visual copy on file before I proceed to lose it.

Unfortunately that hasn't prevented my wife from losing her whole friggin' FOB (twice now) for her Odyssey. Of course, having the key code is frankly unnecessary if you still have a 2nd fob (or don't care about unsynching your car with the lost fob) and is small consolation once you see the bill for the replacement.
