I bought both, plus a can of SEM Graphite paint for color matching. I really didn't want to waste money, but I didn't know any way to compare unless I had everything in front of me and could hold it up to the dash.
What I bought:
Metra 95-7870, about $13
Scosche Dash Kit for 2006-Up Honda Ridgeline Double Din, about $13
SEM Paints Color Coat - Graphite Aerosol (SEM15303), about $13
My conclusion:
The best choice is Metra, without color coat (as shipped)
Metra Dash Kit:
+ Color was dead on match with tray below it
+ Texture was dead on match with tray below it
- Plastic was flimsy, especially the connection between head unit and the tray
I was definitely worried about the structural integrity. I almost permanently glued the head unit dash adapter to the tray unit to improve the strength and prevent a gap line, but that would have made any future changes difficult. In the end it worked OK once in the dash. It looks great - hard to tell it isn't factory.
Scosche Dash Kit:
+ Plastic was thicker and stiffer than Metra
- Color was too dark, almost black
- Texture was wrong, too pebble-grained
- The thin bezel around the opening was odd, hard to align
If I had used the Scosche, I would have colored it with SEM Graphite for a better color match. Although the main head unit dash piece was definitely thicker and stronger than the Metra, I didn't assemble the Scosche to the head unit so I don't know for sure that it would have been any stronger once assembled. But the color and texture were so off that I didn't go any further with it.
SEM Graphite Color Coat (SEM15303):
I saw this used and recommended on one of the other forum posts.
I tested this on one of the dash kit brackets (behind the dash), and this is great stuff. It sprayed on very easily and evenly, with no perceptible surface build up (it's like it magically changes the color without changing any of the texture or surface detail).
The color is very close to stock grey Ridgeline dash, but it is ever-so-slightly lighter. The Metra dash kit is closer to stock color (dead on), so I didn't use the spray on the dash kit. But I think this is something to consider if you customize your dash kit (as did the poster that used it) or need a dash color match for some other accessory or repair. This was closer to the dash color than was the Scosche dash kit, which was clearly too dark.
