My goals:
*Small size
*Automatically records (no buttons to press each time I drive)
*Uses removable memory card
*When memory card fills, auto overwrite of oldest files
*No monthly subscription required

Each persons requirements will probably be different.

This is the one I ended up buying:
Amazon.com

I realize this is just 1080 resolution; all I want is to show I am not at fault… not lift fingerprints from a satellite image like on NCIS :)

Also, you can access the camera via smartphone Bluetooth; but not required for daily operation.

Camera has USB port, you connect supplied power harness to the port, then plug it into another USB port for powering. Starts recording automatically after power applied. It came with one of those 12v USB adapters:

But I wanted this to be hard wired, so I used one of those modules you buy on eBay; 12-24v input, and had the proper USB jack for this project:
24W USB QC 3.0 Fast Charge Step-down Buck Module Power 12V 24V DC Input | eBay

connected to a USB tester; input voltage was 12vdc

Ran the power wire across the top and down the pillar (behind the side air bag; not in front of :) ), and then down to the drivers footwell fuse box; tapped into a switched 12v fuse. Completely hidden.

Was able to mount the camera behind the mirror so that I don’t see it when driving (another goal):

Works fine for what I was wanting.

I’m still on the hunt for a dashcam (my previous one was the Rexing V1P Pro), and it was a great dual channel setup that I hardwired into the fuse box.

I have heard previously that for 2020 and newer models, due to the Idle Start/Stop, when it’s in operation, it might interfere with the dashcam recording?

What I recall is unless you have a dashcam with a capacitor, the start/stop will cause the dashcam to either turn off, or at the least have an interrupted signal.

This might depend on wiring, but if it is an issue, it can be avoided. I don't know of any ignition supplied fuses that turn off with auto idle stop, so I'm skeptical.

I have a Blackvue on my 2023, wired to ignition and B+, with parking mode enabled. The camera works just fine during Auto idle stop, and continues in normal mode. It only switches to park mode when I turn off the engine with the button.
