On the fence about 1st generation Ridgeline

New to the forum and have been reading a lot here lately. I’ve been wanting to purchase a Ridgeline for many years and am now looking to buy a used 1st gen. Most of the market I’m finding is around $20k for 2011-2013 with around 100-120k miles. These are cool trucks and I know have the potential to go for a while after that but reading about the list of repairs that needs to happen +\- frame rust repair has me second guessing the value for this price. Currently looking at a 2013 sport with 108k miles for $20k from a Honda dealer. What repairs/maintenance should I make sure have been done before picking up this truck? Anyone have an idea of cost of ownership over the next few years of a truck like this?

I’ve also seen some Pilots with similar age and miles for about 3-5k cheaper. I’m open to that but would really like a Ridgeline. I have a great vehicle currently so am in no rush so want to make sure I’m getting a good value when I do pick up a new vehicle.

Appreciate the input!

Since you are in no rush, wait for one with much lower miles at a similar price. There are plenty of them out there well below 75K mikes, and even quite a few with under 50K. In my opinion purchasing new is a better value than spending $20K on a vehicle with 100+K miles.

That said, a G1 is a fantastic vehicle and you will appreciate owning one. Go for it.👍

I just bought a 2013 RTL from a private seller, ad popped up on craigslist about two hours away from me. 45k miles, clean carfax ,paid $21k. Use autotempest.com, and set the advanced search options to a mileage you can live with and check often. be patient and the right one will come along.

during my search, I almost gave in a couple of times and bought one with more miles than I wanted, or not in as good a condition, but I’m glad I was patient.

since it is coming from a dealer, the frame rust recall and gas tank repair should have been preformed, IF ever titled in a salt belt state, like MInnesota or the northeast. I would not worry about 100k miles on a ten year old + truck. They should run "forever" with normal maintenance costs. Hopefully the timing belt and serpentine belt will have been already changed. Just be careful about rust. If it is started, it grows pretty fast.

I sold my 2008 Ridgeline with 54,000 miles on it to a good friend when I purchase my 2017 Ridgeline. The good friend had a 2006 with 200,000 miles on his and wanted to upgrade on a lower mileage vehicle as he now was retiring and would be driving much less. I guess what I'm saying here is the first generation are very good vehicles and my 2008 now has 70,000 and problem free. Biggest problem with the first generation is not so great fuel mileage, the 2017 was much better for me, 18.5 city and 24.0 highway.

Given that you have a "great vehicle currently", I'd forget about spending $20,000 on a 10+ year old midsize truck.
Very poor value.

Took a RL for a test drive today and it was awesome. That truck wasn’t the deal for me but am excited to keep searching.

When I was test driving I found an empty lot and tested the turn ability of the truck. At one point was doing tight 360 turns and heard a medium pitch whine/mechanical creak from the rear passenger side of the vehicle while continuing to turn. I thought was maybe coming from the direction of the wheel well. Anyone have any idea what the cause of the noise could have been? Something else for me to keep in mind on my search perhaps.

I'm new to the ROC and I have just purchased a 2008 Ridgeline RTX with 90,000 miles and a single stage Mesa Grey paint job for $11,999. The truck was in showroom condition inside and out. It was a 1 owner vehicle with very good maintenance track on CarFax. I wasn't sure about pulling the trigger on this purchase, but I'm really glad I did make the purchase after driving it 1000 miles from Virginia to Georgia and back. There are a lot of really nice 1st generation up for grabs on Facebook Marketplace.
