Rolling Pop (Front Suspension Noises)

Does anyone have a pop. Like a body mount or loose suspension component. Until today it would only occur after backing from a dead stop and then going forward about 10-20 feet (pop) Now you only have to stop and then move forward about ten feet or so. Back to the dealer I guess. Dam. I hate looking for ghosts and phantoms. Looked for a buzz in the dash for a month in my last truck. Almost to the point of ripping the dash apart. (Sunglasses in the overhead console) Sounded just like it was behind the instrument cluster.

I posted a similar problem last month, multiple pops during slow maneuvers on uneven ground. My front right strut was replaced and the problem is gone. I wonder if you are having the same problem:
http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/...rums/138-second-generation-ridgeline-2g-2017/147873-front-suspension-noise.html

It might be the anti lock braking system doing a self check.
That's interesting - I still hear 1 pop when I drive the vehicle immediately after starting the engine. The strut replacement definitely fixed the repeated pops, so they were unrelated IMO.

If others are having the same problem (repeated pops), Honda definitely knows about it (at least Honda Canada), because the dealer had to get authorization to perform the front right strut replacement under warranty, and provide details to Honda.

This is a G2 forum. Sounds like under the body somewhere. Does the self check not occur directly after start up? This is a delayed pop as if something has to settle into position. Like something rolling from the front of the bed to the rear and "bump" against the inside of the tail gate. I have checked everything in the trunk area and even added padding around the jack. I may need to check and see if the tools are secure.

OK?! I thought this was the Ridgeline Owners Club Forum.

I have a Ridgeline that was properly assembled in Canada in November of 2005. I have been a member of this forum for a number of years, and I don't remember being notified that it was now "a G2 forum".

I was simply attempting to help (as has been the case on this forum since the beginning) by offering up a "possible solution" to the "pop" sound when starting out in drive (ABS system self check).

Apparently, based on at least one member citing this as one of the "pops" heard on a G2 (confirmed by a drive along with a tech), the G2 does the same thing.

Are G1 owners still allowed to post/attempt to help? Or, is this, in fact, now a G2 forum? If so, I will ride my G1 into the sunset for another 100K. I will probably be dust before this truck is... and I will not attempt to contribute anymore (although I will miss hearing about all the problems and fixes on the G2).

Same here. First thing after I just get going it seems. I'm not entirely worried unless I find out later its something that needs addressed at the dealer. Even then, I have a warranty, so ehh... The tundra I traded in made a very similar noise under the same circumstances (sp)? I took it in, thinking the worst. It was quickly dismissed as an ABS self check. I then made the service manager ride with me to confirm it. After driving a couple of brand new tundras on the lot to compare, I had to agree with him. They also did the same exact thing. Who knew?

Anyway, I guess I'll just assume that this is whats going on. I'm good with it for now. I'll surely stay tuned in to this though, just in case its something else..

I also have a pop and can nearly always duplicate it by driving forward down my relatively steep driveway, making a hard turn left at the end, then with the wheel still cranked to the left going into reverse and about 10-20 feet up the driveway i hear a pop which sounds like a metal version of snapping your fingers (hope that makes sense). Actually it sounds a lot like the noise the parking pawl makes when you shift out of Park on a hill (if you didn't set the parking brake) - it happens after 20 feet of movement so i doubt it is that. I don't feel any vibration through the wheel or otherwise. If it turned out to be a tie rod or a strut I wouldn't be surprised.

Not the ABS noise which happens at the beginning of the drive down the driveway. Not anything in the car, the trunk was empty.

Have heard it several times otherwise, but it they were in random situations and I don't see any correlations.

I got some feedback from my dealer with regards to my particular "pop" noise. We reproduced it over and over again in the parking lot. Start truck, slowly drive under 10kms per hr - nothing. Once the truck is at 10 or 11 kms/hr - "pop". The techs say they are not 100% sure, and they will check the other Ridgelines on the lot before I bring my truck in for a thorough diagnostic, at no charge regardless of what it is or is not the cause, but they think it may be a power relay for the truck bed audio shutoff over 10 kms.
I'll update after they have it in the shop in a couple of weeks (I told em Im not in a rush).

Hi everyone,
I have been reading along for a while, and joined just now in order to report that my RTL-T that I picked up in late June has this exact same noise, which occurs under the conditions that everyone else is reporting. I will be getting it to be looked at hopefully after thanksgiving, so I will report back with what the dealer has to say. Thanks to everyone posting about this here; this forum has been a great source of info for me!
Thanks!

Mine is a RTS and I have a pop if you press the gas and then lightly hit the brakes. I can feel it under my dead pedal and I can reproduce it on demand. Drive forward hit brakes pop. Sounds like something thumped up under the truck...I can actually feel it. Been living with it cause my dealer isn't close by.

I have developed this slow speed parking lot clunk pop in the right front suspension.

IMO it was self induced when I installed the front leveling kit.

Things I had apart..........

Strut top nuts,
lower strut pinch bolts,
Lower control arm mounts,
sway bar bushings,
sway bar end links,
R/H lower ball joint nut,

I don't have torque values for these items so I've had to deploy more of a career long feel to them.

I have been slowly retorquing every thing until this noise goes away.

SO far I've hit most everything with a torque wrench at some pretty high numbers and have gotten only a little bit of hardware movement. Sometimes that's all it takes.

Tomorrow I will retorque r/h lower ball joint and the not so fun strut top nuts at the leveling spacer. This will require tightening from the fenderwell using a long extension and a crows foot wrench.
