My dealership scratched my roof rack when installing it. They told me it is aluminum and won't rust. Does anyone know this for sure?
Aluminum does oxidize, unlike iron though, it will have a white'ish powdery type of look to it. I really do not think you have much to worry about though. I had something etch the side rails on my roof rack. I removed the etched marks by using Mequire's Scratch-Ex and lightly rubbing the same direction on bothe rails. Now you can not tell they were damaged.

The roof rack rails are aluminum and will not rust. If the anodizing was scratched, it could corrode, but it should be no problem as long as you keep it fairly clean.

Thanks everyone. This is helpful. I'm going to live with the scratch. I can't take another day in the dealership. I just noticed the front of the roof rack installation and they messed up installing the rails. I should have done the installation myself. I'm not an expert by any means, but I could have done a better job at this than the dealership did.
