So I see that this is used to plug the jump device too. But how is this helpful to be jumped or help jump another battery? How do you plug jumper cables to this?

 

Don't understand what is the problem? You can access the pos terminal and put the neg cable on a bolt or something else. Just did it this weekend when I left the lights on.

 

I think the problem is if it's the other way around and you're trying to jump someone else. Typically on the good battery you connect to both terminals.

 

I don't understand how this is a solution to a battery that covered and hard to access when the plug is attached to the top of the battery with plastic ties? Shouldn't it have longer cables and left out of battery compartment?

 

I have one of those chargers for my VFR. With that setup you could use an extender cable, a male to male connector and a set of battery clamps all plugged in to make a bail your neighbor out quick.

If you were sneaky you could route it out the front grill like the block heater and not even need to pop your hood to do it.

 

When you use chassis to ground the EMS may fault. There are three chassis contact points that will avoid this .. but the issue is ease of use.

The NOCO system (e.g. GB40) comes with a lithium jumpstarter which will give you 20 jumps on a single charge. This would be for jumping yourself.
For others, the unit comes with jumper cables that have the X-Connect cable that also connects to the plug at the battery site.

Can you go into any more detail there? Are there "sanctioned" grounding points?

 

Leaving the connector in close proximity to the battery is perfect from a safety issue. Shorting conductors heading to batteries is a frequent cause of battery fires. The zap straps and area protection where it terminates provides weather and mechanical protection. The length is provided on the jumper cables.

 

Would it not be easier to extend or route an accessible negative grounding point somewhere?

 

Sorry, I was trained many moons ago to always use a chassis ground on both vehicles due to possible Hydrogen fumes from the batteries (not as big of an issue today and not so much on the good battery.). I have jump a number of vehicles from my RL... No issues getting to positive and a good chassis ground (I use the Frame bolt the battery ground goes to anyway.)

I'm not too smart with these things. I have a portable lithium battery jump starter. It says to connect the (-) directly to the battery, but as we know, not easily accessible. Can someone tell me if this is a good ground point? Thanks.

 

the one that says + is NOT a good ground point. The other one is, that is what I use when filling my tires with my compressor.
