Spongy Brakes?

Right from day one, the brakes on my 2025 BE have not given me a whole lot of confidence. Initially I thought it might get better with time but that has not been the case. I now have about 7500 km (4700 miles) on the RL and the brakes still feel/operate the same.

When first depressing the brake pedal, the feeling is spongy/soft and it seems that the pedal travel/movement is more than I'm used to. If I release & pump the pedal once, it brings the pedal back up to what I would say is normal and the braking action is much better. I find myself "pumping" the brakes on a regular basis...not looking forward to an emergency braking situation.

Even my wife remarked about how "off" the brakes felt to her, and how much more effort was required the first time she drove the RL, compared to her car (she drives a 2025 VW Jetta). The braking action in her car is way, way better. I have to try & remember this every time I drive the Jetta...otherwise I'll "eat" the steering wheel if I apply the same foot pressure on the brake pedal as I do in my RL.

I will definitely be addressing this with the dealer shortly but was just curious if others had experienced this? Did a quick search but nothing jumped out at me.

I agree with you. I'm planning on keeping mine to the 10 year mark and pretty much any car with 100,000 miles and 10+ years age is getting a different group of people looking at them. It's the group that doesn't have a lot of money to begin with and they are looking for a less expensive vehicle and will take something that is in their price range known shaky transmission or not. In my case I'll know exactly what kind of condition the transmission is in based on my fluid reports and will be able to show them that data (most don't care I've found as they look at price, price price). At that point it'll sell just because it's going to be decent and also rust free due to the Fluid Film. It'll be a win win for whoever buys it.

I have inadvertently fixed this. I responded earlier that the proper pedal travel was achieved after a service. Well, I noticed an oil spot on the floor but before realizing that it was coming from something surrounding the steering shaft I gave the brakes 3-5 VERY firm presses to make sure it was not brake fluid getting inside.. Drove off and about kissed the windshield upon first brake press.

Something is not allowing these brakes to self-adjust properly.

If you go this route, PLEASE make sure the vehicle has been sitting and the brakes are not at all hot.
